Does anyone know where I may find a Mimosa Tree preferbly modeled in xfrog in 3ds or vue format. It is a very vibrant colored tree when in bloom. They are quite common where i live. Attached is a picture of the tree and link to more pictures of the tree and close ups of the blooms.

Why don't you scan a Mimosa branch and create your tree in Vue? European Mimosas looks different. They have strong perfumed very small yellow balls. But they only grow in the south of France and maybe in Italy.

Some times I would rather pay for a well made model if a free one is not available. I have not had enough experience yet to produce quality trees in Vue. That is why I am buying the USA bundle from xfrog. Maybe when I get as much time and experience in Vue as other Vue users I then can tackle lots things that seem simple to some but not to me. :o) The European Mimosa does seem a lot different than what I have in my yard. I like them because they attract lots of hummingbirds and honey bees in the summer during blooming time. They leave quite a mess to clean up after the seed pods have fallen in the fall. :o)

Just a quick test in TreePro - 10 minutes (without much experience to be honest). The vob model is 11,6 MB, the obj file 12,6 MB. I switched of the leave stems to make the model smaller, otherwise it would have been exploded (120,000 polygons without, 550,000 polygons with). Maybe one must play more with the sizes of the leaves - i saved the parameters. Let me know wether you want it to test, i easily can send it. :-)) Walther

Hey wabe, this is great. Can this also be used in Vue4.2? Unfortunately I don't have Vue Pro. This would be a great freebie (HINT!).

wabe ( ) posted Wed, 18 February 2004 at 3:54 AM

I can easily load it into 4.2 as well - no problem. If there is a demand for i can offer it as a freebie. But i want to see some reactions first - how good it is. From people that do want to work with it. So let me know how the files can be transfered to you. :-)) Walther

Walther, don't hesitate to offer it, we always want trees and this one looks great. I think iloco wanted the flowers too on it:-) Guitta

wabe ( ) posted Wed, 18 February 2004 at 5:52 AM

I thought so too - that iloco wanted the flowers too. Difficult. But, he had an example image without, thats why i decided to give it a try. AND, i think i need a beta tester for that tree, how it acts "in the real world". AND, anything can be changed still. The trunk thicker, no problem. More branches, no problem. Branches curved differently, no problem. ... Let me know. Walther

Great job with the model. I put a link to some pictures that show the flowers of the Mimosa Tree. The flowers are what attracts one to the trees in the summer. I can give you my email address or you can offer to others that might want to experiment with the tree. I think there may be others that would like to have the tree also. btw, is TreePro more user friendly than xfrog....:o)

I think you should try it. You "caused" all that! Lol. Yes, TreePro is a easy going software. Highly specialized to trees, nothing else. www.onyxtree.com Have a look. But it is not as cheap as XFrog. A big minus! I will make a Vue 4.x model out of it and let you know how to get it. Flowers will be difficult, too difficult for me maybe. But thats a challenge for the rest here! :))

Thanks wabe for the information and especially for modeling the tree.. gebe or any the other professional with Vue, xfrog or what ever it takes, we need flowers added to the formosa, Hint Hint.........:o) I will be glad to try the tree and see how it reacts in Vue. Thanks again wabe and gebe for getting us another tree. :o)

Here attached is a picture of a Mimosa tree in my backyard. It is about 3-4 years old. As they get older the limbs get closer to the ground from the added weight of the limbs. They look more squatted as the leaves and blooms add their weight to the limbs. If anyone who reads this thread knows of any good pictures of Mimosa blooms, please let us know about them. Thanks everyone. :o)

Iloco told me that the tree i created was ok, so i think i will offer it to a bigger crowd of betat testers - you. Maybe someone wants to think about how to add flowers to it, so that it is complete and then we probably can put it in our freestuff area. If you want to download the tree, you find the link attached. Would be great if you can tell me about your experiences, it is the first time i did a "public" tree. Ah, i attached simply default materials to the tree, you can (and should) change them to make it look better. Finally, i am away for a quick holiday the next days til Wednesday. So don't be surprised when i will react to any questions etc only after that. Have fun (without me impossible probably), Walther

wabe, Thank you for the exellent model! But, there is one thing makes me anxious. You made it with TreePro, don't you? I have it, too, and everytime when I make 3dmodels/images with Tree, it says "Don't sell, redistribute, blah blah..." . By PDF of help says; ------------------------------------------------- You are licensed to use the Software to generate images and 3D models solely for your own, internal business purposes, for demonstrations, presentations and planning in connection with your internal business purposes and for educational purposes. The license granted herein is limited solely to the uses specified above and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you are NOT licensed to use the Software in connection with the sale, resale, license or other commercial reproduction or distribution of images and 3D models generated by the Software. ------------------------------------------------- Sorry, I am poor at English, maybe I am wrong. Can I distribute the 3dmodel for free? If so, I am very happy. This restriction is a devil of a nuisance.
