Subject: Shade 7 "Basic" demo Available

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 12:19 PM · edited Mon, 30 December 2024 at 2:47 AM

Hi,

The demo of Shade 7 "Basic" is available for anyone interested in taking a look.

Shade 7 has 3 levels. "Basic" is the entry level, "Standard" is the core product and then "Professional". All levels are shipping this year in both Japanese and English (exact dates still to be determined).

http://shade.e-frontier.co.jp/en/demo/demoinfo7.html

Demos of Shade 7 "Standard" and "Professional" will also be available later, following the release of the application.

Kind regards,
Katherine

Thanks Katherine! I am blown away by the posted images, and I've been wanting Radiosity and Caustics for a while. I'm off to see the wizard!

Hope you'll enjoy the demo Caravaggio. Basic is a powerful entry level appl., but I think you'll also be interested in looking over the Standard and Professional demos when they are available this year. Kind regards, Katherine

It's downloding at the moment... :) I must be dumber than usual tonight (and thus breaking a new record in human dumbness), but I could not find the price of these softwares. Can you give us an idea of the price range Shade's 3 versions ?

How about download Poser animations in Shade7?

Hi Compiler,

No - actually we are finalizing the price points for all 3 levels this month. We should have this info posted to our site (and ideally and FYI on the forums) soon. The pricing will be set to be an advantage for users in the US and European markets though.

Also, thinking quickly - if I had to take products I'd be familiar with to compare to the different levels of Shade for a purception of functionality - I'd compare "Basic" to Dabbler (created from Painter), "Standard" as more in line with the level of functionality that Poser offers with "Professional" offering the strength of a Lightwave product. Again, this is just a thought off the cuff to give some idea.

With Shade expected to be a new product in the US and Europe (and other English regions) this year - we've got a bit of work ahead. Shade has been so strong in Japan - dating it's start back in the early 90's, which means there's a great deal understood about the product and in how it's used, what the most compeling features are as well as in materials available and used such as tutorials and 3rd part books which are all in the midst of being tranlated - an advantage for people in these new markets to learn about quickly that has taken more than a decade in Japan to understand. Rather than to wait for all of the information to be available in one glance which will take a bit of time, we'd like to distribute what's available as soon as it is for all to see. Have fun with the "Basic" demo, but be sure to take a look at the "Standard" demo when we announce it's availability. Again, I'll check back on pricing when it's finalized. Kind regards, Katherine

Torulf, We are also working on the Poser -> Shade compatibility. I know it would be better to know what and when, but I just don't have the full answer on that - yet. We'll keep posting more details as it becomes finalized. And yes Bobasaur, e frontier has successfully released Macintosh along side with Windows which is fantastic. Kind regards, Katherine

I couldn't find prices either, so I tried the Japanese site; I see the December Sale price for Shade 7 basic is 19,000 Yen. That's $174.584 USD at today's rate. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, some earlier were saying it was going to be over 1,000. Guess I might as well take a look too!

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 5:30 PM

Hi igohigh, Actually, it'll probably be better than the conversion rate for all three levels in US Dollars and Euro. Kind regards, Katherine

SWAMP ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 7:05 PM

Uh...only the Profe$$ional version uses the LWO or 3ds format...and no version use OBJ?(!)

biggert ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 7:07 PM

....just curious....how is Shade 7 better than say Carrara 2.1 or 3? i havent really cracked open my CS 2.1 and um excited about Shade 7.....i figured id ask this question since its Poser related.....Curious Labs market and promote C Studio... thanks for any tips. =)

biggert ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 7:09 PM

SWAMP ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 7:22 PM

.....Nope...but it does support IGES5.3 format.

biggert ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 8:29 PM

thanks for the info SWAMP....i think ill skip Shade 7 and stick with Carrara....

Torulf ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 8:55 PM

It gonna be a flop for the poser users if Shade basic not can import and export OBJ.

biggert ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 10:15 PM

well....an OBJ bypass is to export your OBJ in poser as 3DS and import it into Shade 7 Professional... or export as DXF and import into Shade 7 Basic...basic does not support 3DS Max.... havnt tried this yet

PheonixRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 11:05 PM

If they are going to do any Poser>Shade features they will have to add obj support. i wouldn't worry about it.

The Shade demo looks cool. It won't lure me away from Max or May aany time soon but the app is seriously capable. If CL can hook in any sort of Poser schene import (liek BodyStudio level) and give Poser5 owners a discount on Shade they will slam the door shut on Poser alternatives in my mind. Note to CL: DO NOT wait for full Poser/Shade integration. Get a plug in for Shade out ASAP. Shoudl be interesting!

Well, Shade looks like it is a real modeler and all. I must confess I'm no one to judge because my modelling skills are below zero. Is there a manual, a tutorial or book of any sort to explain the main commands (which are probably familiar to modelers, but which make me feel I've been given a 747 to pilot with my small cars driving license !). Thanks in advance.

There is some help available with the demo, but it is kind of a steep learning curve :)
