Finally started on the Dia de Muertos festival shots in earnest. Thought I'd post the very first one, which is fitting as this is an Aztec warrior blowing out the signal that heralds the formation of the circle of life that will form to honor the ancestors. Haven't figured out the border I want to use for this event yet. Simple one will suffice for now. -=>Donald

Wow! Excellent image Donald! I love your people photography! You should post them in your gallery! Jinx

A border incorporating the Aztec calender might be nice. Love the shot, by the way.

Could be worse, could be raining.

i noticed that too... sigh... very fitting beginning! :]

Why do women always notice the abs????? Sigh. I have abs too. Somewhere.... I know there here. I saw them once,,,, I think. Excellent photo D!

rickymaveety ( ) posted Tue, 24 February 2004 at 6:20 PM

Yeah, I was going to mention the guy's abs as well ... he probably has about a 3% body fat. I found a site that has a few individual symbols from the Aztec Calendar that could be incorporated into a really nice border. If you have any interest in them, let me know.

Could be worse, could be raining.

Thanks guys. Just from previewing, I think there are some really good single performer shots in this one. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the borders. Because the event was multi-cultural (Mexico, Haiti, etc.) I've been thinking of doing something that's kind of representative without being identifiable as being from one culture or another (like Aztec calendar symbology or Mexican fabric patterns). It also has to be a border that doesn't compete with the photo, just simply enhances it. That's why I tend to like simple, borders for the most part. I did play with the above. Still don't like it 100%, but I think it has some potential. What do you guys think? -=>Donald

Woops ... wrong image. Here is the right one.

cynlee ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 3:33 PM

i like this edging, like glass beads... maybe a little less blur?

Michelle A. ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 3:49 PM

Interesting, like cynlee said looks like glass beads, but I'm the wrong person to ask... I prefer simple boring white or black ones over anything else...

I like the beaded effect, but I personally think it would look better as stone than as glass.

Not only am I insane, but I've lost the ability to type coherent paragraphs. Sheesh...lets try that again. I think I'm with Michelle on this (remember, the whole paddle thing ... gotta make sure I stay on her good side). :) I did 6 designs for the border last night when I got home. The simple ones are the ones I kept going to. The last one was simple enough that I liked it too, but when it's sharp it competes too uch with the intricate design of the costume(s). Blah... The one in this message was one I did before the beaded/stone look of the last one. Think it's more towards what I'll use. *shrug* Give me 30 seconds and I'll probably change my mind. Too many events in a row, running out of border ideas. :) -=>Donald

Nice, simple, doesn't compete or take away from the image, and I like the added interest of texture.... it's got class.

yep... gotta agree, looks like you & probably more versatile for the series :]

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 25 February 2004 at 7:31 PM

Thanks guys...think I will go simple on this one. Oh yea, Jinx. I thought about uploading a few of these to the gallery, but I've been feeling really guilty about doing that. I don't have the time to look at and comment on other peoples shots and I feel bad when they take the time to comment on mine. So I haven't uploaded for a while. Maybe when I get more caught up. Woo hoo. Today is my Friday. Will be able to work on the shots the next couple of days. -=>Donald

Wonderful shot Donald. Like the final framing best too. Keep it simple ... :) Tom
