Subject: Major Problems with Poser 5 service upgrade 4?

jschoen ( ) posted Thu, 26 February 2004 at 1:19 PM · edited Thu, 19 September 2024 at 12:45 PM

Is it just me or did this latest service release 4 screw things up instead of fixing things? I now cannot visably change my background color. Shadow maps are strange in the firefly renders. 2d motion blur only blurs transparencies (screwing up transparencies as well). And several other major (not minor) bugs. JamesSF

I am working on an animation in the cloth room also using Ockham's jiggle. The animation just stops and the Calculating Dynamics disappears. The clothing doesn't separate from the figure and the animation cannot be restarted. Fortunately I have another copy of Poser 5 on the hard drive without SR4 and the animation works there just fine.

I just recieved an e-mail from CL, and they possibly explaind the background problem, but I'm still having lighting anomalies. I have "Rolled back" to Service Release 3 myself for the moment because that still works. So hopefully now they are aware of these problems and will release a patch or offer some solutions. Larryma, if you haven't already, please submit this to the tech support at CuriousLabs. JamesSF

Has anyone been able to File | Export a Wavefront .obj file with the checkbox for a morph-target on? I know this was supposed to work in Poser 4, but that last set of selections seems to be pretty much broken. I've noticed the background colour problem, and I'm seriously considering a re-install from scratch. It might be easier than trying to contact tech support...

LOL, Well I actually got Tech Support to respond rather quickley, and YES one suggestion was to reinstall Poser 5 again (clean install). But I'm not sure if I need service relese 1 & 2, which I don't have after a HD crash. James

To cure background problem wrt SR4: Load P5 Go to Material room"; select "background"; delete all unattached nodes. Go to "Edit->General Preferences"; hit "set preferred state" That should cure it for all new scenes. For re-loaded PZ3 files (if you need to change the background) you'll have to go through the process again for that file then re-save the file (sigh) I think.. Cheers, Diolma

Well, I now have content paradise -- broken -- the worst of both worlds. The install did not make me happy.

Try some of these tips, folks. I'll catch up again tomorrow and address as much as I can specifically...

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

I deleted everything and reinstalled it all and all I have left to do is edit Content Paradise out of existence. I can see the point of it, but since it doesn't seem to allow me to access content I already have (for reinstalling that too), I'm not sure it meets my needs. A little too limited, though it doesn't seem to cause the performance hit I've been told about, I'm just not interested in the distraction or the soft porn that often is being sold via the advertisements. All in all I'm impressed with Poser 5 and have been happy with the efforts by the survivors at Curious Labs -- and appreciate their putting up with all the griping, etc.
