Subject: A RAM issue

Hi,

I just got my P5 for Win. I had to because my P5 on my Mac was to slow.

Anyway, I have read some threads about P5 memory issue, that it requires a lot. Some has said that 1 Gig should be minimum. I have 511 MB on my PC and as I have fired P5 a just a little, I can monitor on the app. RAM Booster that I have almost 60 percent left of my RAM during a "Calculate Simulation," something that took forever on my Mac.

So my Q is: What actions is there that require so much RAM inside of P5? Maybe I don't have to put more inside for the tasks I perform inside P5. Would be nice to clear such issue, since I have to buy such expensive Rambus in that case.

Ram is useful to handle complex scenes with lots of polygons (several characters...), lots of morphs, HiRes textures, and also to render with quality settings. If you use Poser5 just to pose a single character and then export it to be rendered in another app, 512 Mb should be all right.

I have 512 RAM on PC too, can render up to 4 characters (in Poser 5) before starting to get problems - and that includes various props and stuff. I'm running under Windows 2000 - that might make a difference, it handles memory much better..

Dynamic calculations for hair or cloth are very memory-intensive; for all practical purposes, Poser is generating a new morph target for each frame of the animation.

512meg, over a gig! Heck I'm still using a P2 with 256meg. Mind you I do final renders in Vue4, its a bit less memory hungry than Poser.
