Subject: Time for Freestuff categories for non Mil people?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Mon, 01 March 2004 at 6:04 PM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 12:10 PM

Hi there, I looked and couldn't find where else to ask about this. Back when Rendo first started there were just the Mil Figures. Now there are lots but only they have ther own freestuff categories. Alot of figures like Koshini, Dina, May Doll and such have wide support with alot of new characters including Neftoon, Sara, and I am doing a new male I have been talking about in PS. Since it is just html how about more categories for Poser figures that aren't the Mil People? I know some will say "well theremay not be enough" but the Mil grils have their own and they are ancient now. :) Anyway what do you think. Who might I contact about my own figure? I think this could be a nice idea. Does anyone else? -Anton

PS: If update cost is an isssue , what about if the owner's of their figure pay for a freestuff category? I wouldn't mind doing that if it would help it happen?

Nice idea Anton :) I'll point this thread it out to the big guys and see what they think, okay? Kev.

Cool. I hope they do it. People sometimes don't like to change things, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I trhink it's a good idea imho, it's hard to figure out where to put much less find free stuff for other figures

Not exist many Poser 5 material for Don and Judy. In Poser 4 is strange the cloting for the P4 childs.

Hear, hear, excellent idea. Besides the newer characters, it's very difficult to search for items specifically for P4man or P4woman and get accurate hits. I suspect that a Free Stuff re-org would be a huge task, but as our world of most-frequently-used virtual characters grows, some way of refining searches or establishing character zones would be most appreciated.

Freestuff is, I believe, one of the largest traffic generators of the site. Perhaps there are ways to solicite volunteers, members, or an email to freestuff creators themselves. It could be like the gallery reorganization.

I've been waiting for this to happen for some time, myself, expecting them to just sorta see the need for it, I guess. I'd also like to see the store categories reflecting the same -- from the perspective of a buyer, it makes things a lot easier to find stuff for them if they have their own categories. Although I'm willing to bet they'll have to do it in a manner similar to the way they did the galleries -- broad categories and then subcategories. Might also be a great chance to clean out some of the dead links in there...

Both the freestuff and store IMO need better organization. Either that or a better search engine. Finding specific types of items right now is a nightmare.

I'd like to see this happen. I'd also like to see a better search facility (boolean please!!) but this would help, I'm sure.

yeah - I agree, boolean searches would simplify this; and it'd probably also make settingup the categories easier. Too bad MySQL doesnt handle Booleans. Or has decent transaction support. ~S

This would be a -very- good idea; there are excellent models out there that many simply do not know about. The initial spate of freebies and $$ content has been buried beneath the much higher volume of the Millenium models. Having those kinds of categories could breathe new life into a lot of meshes out there.

An imperfect, but cheap, fix would be to encourage better description of the material. Some folks don't even bother to use the Notes & Requirements feature, From the last couple of searches I did, I reckon that data must be already used.

All good ideas I especially support more stuff for the P4 default "people" as (for now at least)I can't really afford to buy stuff. More freebies for the p4 people would really be a great help. Be nice if they made a section of freebies for just the P4 characters. P.S. sorry for the jerky sentances, Its early AM and I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet.
