Subject: Poser Pro Pack Collision Detection

Is there a way in Poser Pro Pack to make figures detect other figures? Collision detections? I have figures I want to drop to the floor of a Set not the floor of the universe. Is this possible without having half of a 2 story scen below the ground?

As far as I know poser 4/ pro pack dosn't have collision detection. (if it does ive never found it!)

Yes Ockham made a python script that gives Pro pack a sort of collision detection. I THINK it was his HEUREKA script. There's also his "walk this way" script which perhaps is more what you need. It enables (for instance) a character to walk up a slope without falling thru. Search free stuff here for Ockham and they should pop up :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Incidentally, I removed "Walk This Way" from Freestuff; its function has been replaced by a far superior script by SVDL. Search for SVDL and you'll find it quickly.

I probably should make a fully flexible collision detector, that gives you the choice of stopping, squishing, or bouncing. I have the "ingredients" but there didn't seem to be much demand.

Oh please do, Ockham. I love your python scripts. They're the reason I started animating at ALL! (not that I am in any way good at it..)

I 2nd that ernyoka. They make things so much easier. Ockham you have to do it.

Aye, the only reason I don't animate with Poser is because the lack of collision detection. Would be great to have that ability thats for sure. ;)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and let me say YES PLEASE on a good full script for collision detection in Poser Pro Pack!!

I have to agree - IMHO I suspect that many people grow to love features they can find far more often than they crave features they don't yet know how to use. For example, give us gravity and collision-detection with "bounce off" and "squish" and you'll find people producing fountains of marbles and attempting "sewer water pouring out of pipe" animations that just wouldn't occur to them without gravity and collision aids to Poser's default abilities. Once one has the tool (and preferably understands it) it's a lot easier to come up with neat uses for it. I suggest :) Cheers, Cliff

I just got Pro Pack and was wondering if I should download these.

numanoid ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 8:33 PM

Well, the gravity script is available already and it works pretty neat. I would love decent collision detection. It is the one thing that wastes the most time in an animation is stopping things poking through each other and falling through floors.

ockham, collision detection for Pro Pack would be great. Make it so, as Picard would say. LOL :O) BTW how did you make out on fitting the dress to your character - you can IM me if you ran into probs and maybe I can help. Meant to get back to you sooner on that, but have been snowed under with other things. :O)
