Wanted to share these as I don't want to upload two versions of the same images to my gallery..... The BW were shot on Tri-X Pan, the color on the ol' D7 I have no strong preferences for either type of photography.... I love color work just as much as BW, but lately my photography has been mostly BW due to school. I made sure I brought both cameras with me this time so I could shoot a little bit of both.... I have to say personally my leanings are towards the BW with the subject matter I shot, although in this first one... green being my favorite color, and a moss lover at that I'm torn between the two...

Both of these have a different feeling.....yet I prefer the BW in this.... curious as to what others think... BTW the full size images in BW are in my gallery.

Image 1: Color all the way. It is a great color green and I love the moss. Image 2: BW. there is little color anyway adn i just like the feel of the BW. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. the first one is good either or, but some filtration would have enhanced the phosphorescence of the moss and giving the green a striking look. the dock scene was printed as it should have been. black and white. One thing to remember for those shooting only negative film. You can print colour negs to black and white print paper easy enough, however, the dyes involved usually tend to flatten the image requiring a higher contrast filter. Also, the image might not seem as "tight" in the final print. Best if you want B&W as the end result, then use B&W film. Great shots both Michelle. I am a big fan of Tri X in the 120 and 4x5 formats. It has excellent range and good grain. I have a tendancy to go to more "obtuse" B&W film when in the 35mm format.

An after thougth Michelle. Have you ever tried colour IR film? You would be blown away by what you got in the mossy stair shot.

Is it OK to like the B&W on odd days of the week, and the color on even? I guess if have to choose, I like the lush green moss. The color here is needed to show off the carpet. I like the dock better in B&W. It is sort of a "moody" shot; purposely leaving for the imagination where it is coming from or going to. The B&W adds to dreamlike quality.

Hmmm, I think black and white for the first one...and the second one...hmm...black & white again. Jinx

b&w for both...but i guess you knew that :)

For me, even though I do like the 1st one in colour I think I would prefer the B&W I think it gives the image more visual impact. In the 2nd choice I prefer the colour shot, mainly because the gravel is more visible. And the white area in the top right is toned down more in the colour. Just my opinion. All 4 of the images work well.

I like the green of the stairs, but I don't like the touches of the strong reddish-brown colour...I'd like to see those replaced with a simple grey...in fact, it would be interesting to green tint the B&W. What do you think? As for the second shot...I think the crop is the most important feature...I do prefer the B&W though...it enhances the simplicity. Both gorgeous...colour or B&W...you never cease to amaze.

The B/w and the Color are a great contrast in the image you posted above. Where as the B/W gives a sort of dead and still look to the stairs, the color image is so full of life or I could be imagining.;)

Colour for me. The first rocks with the pine needles and leaves against the moss. The second isn't as cold in the colour version imo, but I lean towards colour anyway.

....I like the colour versions on both shots - seems to lose a little on the b&w,s.

you can choose b/w and colour, Michelle. the pictures are in both way`s excellent seen and very beautiful composed. i think this is the most important part on this shots. regards gerhard

Selection 1: I think the GREEN moss is an overwhelming feature and MUST STAY. Selection 2: B&W! . Discoloured boards and froggy colour water do nothing for me. The B&W eliminates anti-colour choice and extends the power of the shadow (a feature enhancing the mood of the shot). Agree with Misha on this.

Damn, now normally (I know, a word not usually associated with me...) I'm a sucker for B&W.... and yes, the first shot reinforces this.... but the second? Well, I definately prefer the hint of colour here... it just, well, adds something... Both great pics, 'Chelle! (",)
