"Should I change my screen name here at Renderosity?" Hell no, why should you. Are you talking about "RNKarenER?" If so, her nic and yours both begin with TWO letters that are the same. If that's the case than maybe the fault isn't yours or Karen's but maybe it's just a problem with people who can't be bothered to READ? ;) $0.02 delivered.

Online identity confusion is always fun. For awhile I used to go onto IRC regularly. Sometimes I would use the nick "GabrielK" during chatting. For some reason everyone thought that Gabriel was the same as Gabrielle and all these guys would start private messaging me to ask what I look like, where I live, etc. After getting an excessive amount of private messages during one session I changed my nick to "GabrielK_is_a_guy" (or something like that). Seemed to do a trick. Anyway to bring it back on topic, maybe you could include a thin banner at the top of your image with the words "I am not RNKarenER" in big bold letters. Or maybe just put those words in your image description. As a last resort it may help with the confusion. :)
Changing nicks may induce other problems, too. If a merchant knows that RnRWoman bought a product, but not that you are the same person as RockNRollN (example), then an image posted with a store-bought prop might raise questions... and some merchants do jump the gun because they have been burned badly and often. Also if you sign your name differently but have the same style, people may think that you are a plagiarist. This is especially true if you post your iamges in more than one gallery. I remember when Daio changed her name and there were a flurry of messages to her saying that this other person was ripping her off. Sometimes it is just smoother adn less confusing for everybody to keep the name you are known by. That said... adding a logotype or an icon to your artistic signature may help differentiate you at least as far as the galleries go. Carolly
Thanks all for your opinions! It gives me a lot of stuff to think about. I think I will try tho to make a logo first for myself to use on my renders, etc. If it continues, then I might possibly change my screen name to something like RockNRollWoman. Keep the opinions coming tho, I'm curious to your ideas about the logo! Maybe I'm just feeling uninspired, but "RnRWoman" just doesn't draw up any images in my head right off hand. :/
Well, your logo doesn't need to say anything about rock, or even music. One of the art nouveau masters signed himself with a vaguely oriental butterfly (I'm blanking on the name, but I think he was the one who did the Peacock Room?). Charlie Russell signed his paintings with a cow's skull. I use my initials in elvish tengwar compressed into a logotype. Since people can't read it, it is a design rather than a word. You remember the classic rock posters... Hendrix, et al, with the bright colors and the exaggerated typefaces? 2 'R's facing away from each other (maybe I have butterflies on the brain?) with a blacklight treatment would evoke that era without taking up a lot of space. If you put a microphone up between them, and curve the legs of the R's inward, you might be able to get an outline of a guitar. Since a guitar body is somewhat feminine, done right, you have the whole concept in one tidy design. Carolly

If you want the old 'hendrix-style' fonts, they can be found at http://www.ragnarokpress.com , which has a bunch of decorative fonts, though most are spendy..you can download samples, though. I was nu-be for about a year here (then it got old, and folks started telling me I wasn't a 'nu-be' anymore), so I just posted a couple of threads announcing the new name (Pakled), even though I was going for 'gadfly' (which was already taken, dangit..;) Just a quick reminder..the handles you use *are* case-sensitive, when doing searches on artists, so you might want to concentrate on one case (upper or lower) or the other..which could also be some of the confusion at present. The world needs more women rock 'n rollers..fellow musician..;)I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Hey, you know, an image came to mind reading the posts in this thread. I think it would be cool if you created a chrome silhouette of a woman singing. You could use the alpha channel from a render you posed of a woman with a mic, and fill it with chrome using a Pshop filter. You could even do a kind of etching on top of that set into the chrome, using the letters RR. Just a thought... Jack
Kewl! Thank you for the font links, and for your reply! I wasn't sure what to do first. But I think I will try to make a logo first, and see if there is still confusion. If there is, I might change my nickname to the same thing only spelled all the way out. And thanks for your comment on women rock 'n' rollers! I love music, so my nick fits me hehe. So are you a musician too? I dabble in it a bit myself. Also... Thank you for the ideas, Jack! Keep the ideas roling! I love hearing everyone's logo ideas! :) Thank each of you so far for sharing! God Bless and have a great day! ~RnRWoman~
Well I can sing along with the name confusion L I sign all my pictures with TrekkieGrrrl and my Free Stuff and my store items, but my user name is ... ernyoka1. It was ernyoka once, then I forgot my password doh and had to create a new one. Then I started making free stuff and in a blonde moment I signed the thumbnail with my other online-handle, TrekkieGrrrl and the rest is history :o) I have noticed some people use one handle for the forums and another for shopping. Sure it confuses the merchant, but hardly anyone seems to be actually USING the stuff they buy from me (or at least they don't credit me so I cansearch for it...) so I wouldn't know if someone used my stuff "illegally". I guess they wouldn't credit me in that case anyway. And life's too short to go thru the WHOLE Poser gallery. Whatever you do, think it over. Changing a handle can be a sensitive matter. Though I use Ern Yoka less and less online it's still ME and I wouldn't like to abandon it for good.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Thank you ernyoka1 for your reply! Yeah, I understand. And this is why thinking it through I think perhaps I should try the logo idea first. If the confusion continues, then change my nickname to the same just all the way spelled out. Thanks for your input! God Bless and have a great day! :) ~RnRWoman~

Hi, I'm not sure where to post this, so I think since I do a lot of work with Poser, that it's ok to post this here. I notice recently when I upload to the galleries, a lot of people get me confused with another Renderosity member Karen, who's screen name also starts with RNR. Which I can understand because of the similarities with the first part of our screen names. Thinking about this, I am wondering... Should I change my screen name here at Renderosity? If i change it to a competely different name it might be confusing to most folks. So I am thinking of changing it to something with basically the same name (for example, instead of RnRWoman, change my screen name to RockNRollWoman, which is what RnRWoman stands for.) Another question I have too. I notice in the Galleries how people have logos and things that are their "trademark." I am wondering what suggestions you all might have for my name that could be used as a "trademark" along with my signature? I'm just looking for some inspiration. :) Thanks in advance. :)
