Subject: Any interest in a Judy face morph pak?

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 10:21 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 11:24 AM

About a year ago, I did a LOT of work on a head morph expansion pack for Judy. The head morphs were all original, and created with ZBrush. I set the project aside, because at the time there didn't seem to be a lot of interest in it.

Now that SR4 has cured a lot of performance issues for many, I thought I'd check again to see if this product might be of interest to P5 users. I thought I'd take a second look at it and see what else it might need before I release it. I was also going to create a hi-res texture specifically for Judy to go along with it.

So ... would anyone be interested in a face morph / texture set for Judy that would allow you to add much more variety once you get out of the Face Room? (I'll post some sample renders after my P5 computer frees up from an AVI render).

Thanks!

Dee

OK, I did find an image that shows an example of a face that I created using some of the face morphs in the package. I had this in my gallery a long time ago.

Well, I may be the only one, but I would love this package. I like Judy...I guess because I think she has more potential than she's been given credit for. Now I get to wait for the predictable "Judy is an alien" posts...but, still and all, I would have an interest despite the naysayers.

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 11:04 AM

Now I get to wait for the predictable "Judy is an alien" posts... LOL Yeah I know. 8-) I think she has a lot of potential - as has been proven by a few other Judy makeover products. While preparing the Face Room tutorial, and trying my hand at reproducing some celebrity photos, I found the morphs in the face room didn't quite achieve some of the facial shapes I wanted ... especially in regards to the nose, mouth, chin, and cheek area. I don't think this was a limitation of the face room, or of Judy, I think it is just that she needed more morphs in the face room to accomplish the look I was looking for. That was the whole idea behind the morph pack that I did last year. You can get a GREAT start in the face room, but these were "refinement morphs" and "character morphs" ... sort of along the line of what Capsces so WONDERFULLY did with Vicky, Mike, and the Millenium kids. I know part of the problem is Judy's figure, too. I may get REALLY brave and try out a body morph pack if there is interest in that as well ... but because the face pack was so time consuming, I cringe at the thought of going through all of that work if only five people will really want it. So ... speak now or forever hold your peace. LOL 8-)

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 11:40 AM

I'm surprised there's not more interest because I know there have been some Poser 5 users who have not wanted to invest in Vicky 3 and Mike 3 for a lot of reasons (I hate using them in Poser 5 because of the drain on my resources). Judy is a nice alternative figure to give variety to a scene. I like her clothing packages, which can be reworked endlessly with the material room, and the dynamic cloth gives her the ability to wear a lot of clothes not made for her. I guess we are so stuck on stereotypical fantasy Vicky and anime variations that someone that looks a little different and is still realistic just can't find acceptance...it's a pity we'll lose your package just because we have a failure of imagination. It seems surprising to me, but then a lot of things do. Sigh. Still, you did a beautiful job. As a Zbrush drop out, I salute your skill. :)

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 12:20 PM

OK ... let me ask this ... What could be included in the pack to generate more interest?

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 12:39 PM

Maybe a contest? I know that sounds silly, but it seems as if people really enjoy a little competition, and it draws attention to the product. Maybe you could ask them to name the morphs and the one you like the best, you could give as a prize and that might generate some interest. Perhaps some additional renders will help. Visuals always help me to decide if I'll buy something. Or, maybe, contacting people who use Judy like pokeydots or edmundo_kalashnikov or others and asking them what they would like to see would help since they might be interested in additional products. ????

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 12:46 PM

I've been playing with Anan lately, so yes, I might be interested in a face morph pack.

file_101694.jpg

OK, if it's additional renders ya want, I aim to please. 8-)

I tried to make these as "web page friendly" as I could, leaving them at 800 pixels wide ... but here are small thumbs of all of the morphs I made for the package.

First - nose, nostril, mouth, jaw, lips morphs. Some are overexaggerated to create caricature type figures.

And here are eye morphs (positioning and scaling of eyeballs not included in the renders yet), and face shape morphs. Again, lots of extreme ones for caricatures.

Lastly, ear, brow, cheek, jowl, and chin morphs. Lotsa stuff here as well.

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 2:23 PM

You did a lot of work on Judy. Very nice....huge selection. A thought just occurred to me. Do morphs for Judy also work on Don?

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 2:29 PM

Though I haven't tried to convert them over, I would suspect so, seeing as the heads use the same geometry. The same would also be true of Will and Penny (the kids).

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 3:03 PM

Oh well ... I tried.

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 3:13 PM

That's all you can do. Still, it's nice to see what could be done. :)

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 3:22 PM

They look pretty good but I am in still P4 and don't see a lot of support files for the P5 people.

Fashionably_Late ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 4:55 PM

Looks like a really nice set of morphs, I'd be interested. :) Yamato's AnAn figure really did improve on Judy's movement capabilities and body shape, but I'd love to see some variety in her face. Don't give up, I can't be the only other person interested! -Molly

pokeydots ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 5:32 PM

I would be interested too :) Do you have morphs to make her eyes rounder?

Ohhhhh!!! There's hope! Now I don't feel so bad! LOL Yes, if you look up in the left side of post #10, there are Eyes Vertical Height, Eyes Upper Height and Eyes Lower Height morphs that make the eyes rounder. However, if there are any requests for additional morphs, let me know and I will try to add them to the pack. You can IM me with requests or send an email ... I'll be glad to incorporate any face morphs you really need. Thanks, guys, I was feeling kind of disheartened. I'm so glad to hear there is some interest!

Letterworks ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 8:23 PM

Deecey, Sorry not to speak up sooner but I missed this post! While I've always thought Jusy had potential I wasn't much interested until Yamato's AnAn figure came out. Now I would be interested in your morph set! Judy is finally coming into her own. mike

Poor Judy doesn't get enough credit!

I have to check out AnAn myself, as she is quite lovely! I'm thinking that slowly but surely, now that more and more are starting to take a look at Judy, that perhaps more things will come out for her. Time will tell. 8-)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 10:30 PM

Deecey, You can't give up after only a few hours! Some people only make one pass a day, and their "day" might begin at a different time. When I saw the eyes wide and slitted, I immediately thought of Gollum. Humanoid faces will be easier to accomplish with more morphs (and with some extreme faces, Judy herself won't look so alien to folks obsessed with Vicki). Just like what Beth did with Boris, I think you'll need to show a selection of pre-made faces to get people started. Once they analyze the recipe and discover that it is a little of this and a dash of that, they can do their own cooking. Contests are always good, too. People here seem to jump on contests (that competitive spirit). I'd suggest 2 types: one to win the package before it comes out (guessing or naming are the usual methods, but something new would be good). After the package is out, but before you've done textures or full-body morphs, another contest using this package to win the next. A celebrity or a well-known image from classical art such as the Mona Lisa or one of Rossetti's bee-stung beauties could serve as the target and the winner would be the person who got closest. Sculpture would be best because then the shaping of the mesh would be most obvious. Carolly

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 09 March 2004 at 11:21 PM

Thanks Carolly, I took the sage advice of you and dialyn, and started a contest thread. I also posted a render over there as well. I like your additional contest ideas and will definitely keep them in mind. 8-)

Why would anyone think Judy looks alien? I think a face morph pak would be great. I just started working in P5 and using photos in the face room. Here is what I made with Judy. Does she look alien?

Let me introduce you to my multiple personalities. :)

WONDERFUL job!!!!!!!!! 8-)

Letterworks ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2004 at 4:20 PM

BluEcho, Excellent render! As I said, I think Judy has LOTS of potential. I've jsut been waiting (and hoping) for more morphs. I'm not a fan of Judy's original body shape and just can't get the look I want from the base morph set. THe face morphs are a great addition and AnAn has moved the body set much closer to the look I want. mike
