It was actually the January challenge if I remember correctly. It's not like the Photoshop Challenges are taking the world by storm. So maybe retrocity is not too eager to make up a new one... But if there are enough people getting inspired by the idea and post a lot of Becker & Sanz stuff I am convinced there will be breath live in this slow starting phenomena.
Way cool bodi! Yep, hoof is right on pretty much both counts... the "challenge" was for January but it seemed to have been met with low interest overall and not sure it's worth the constant updating... God knows it's not like the input that the 2D forum gets (this last months challenge netted over 85 entries) but i'd still like to have some kinda creative thing for all us PS users...
what's your opinion?

I vote for bodi! The difference with the challenge in the 2D forum (hardly ever been there, and will keep that up for now, due to work pressure), or better, the lack of it might be the biggest cause. People who like to compete creatively, involving images and pushing those pixels around, might be genetically driven to end up in the 2D forum. The theme is attractive to me, but mixing the mediums (or programs) is something that comes naturally, and not putting too much 3D in the mix (it is the Photoshop Challenge after all) is logical. The end result for a Photoshop challenge should be in the 'technical skill' I think, while a 2D challenge would be more of a 'creative skill' kinda thing. That difference is now very small (because of the broad range of interpretations and 'translations' of the challenge). Maybe narrowing down the end resultmore to Photoshop wizardry and less to the creation would give a challenge here an edge. But maybe most of the forum visitors are not likely to be challenged at all. Then nothing will help. Otherwise I would be interested to see what happens if the start of the challenge is a (hires) photo, and the contestants are asked to do something with that particular photo. http://www.worth1000.com/ shows there are enough people on this planet that want to flex them Wacom muscles and make extraordinairy things. But I can imagine they once started with 4 entires too. I am a bit fuzzy/bizzy/dizzy. But my vote goes to bodi.
Hoofdcommissaris has a good point about the Photoshop Challenge. Perhaps if it was a photo manipulation, instead of a style challenge more people might show their PS skills. For last month's challenge, I know nothing about jazz, or images that would be appropriate for such, so didn't enter. Hope i'm making a modicum of sense.
If you were able to find some "seed" photos, perhaps you could still use elements of the contest as it is. Such as: use this photo, change it or whatever, to fit this month's style of music. Or use your PS skills, to change this normal looking person or scene, (or whatever is appropriate) to an alien one. As far as the interest goes, it's hard to say. I know I would be more interested, but as for the general populace - unpredictable. Perhaps a poll to see if it's worth the time and effort? This is not to say I haven't enjoyed looking at the current monthly challenges. They are always interesting and unique.
I got here because when I was investigating the challenge I wondered where to send the final. I guess it would be here. I've been a bit remiss lately with my attention to rosity at large... busy. however I'm up for any challenges no matter the criteria ps being my main illustrating tool, (printing & publishing collar) not too much 3D going on in books. Back later with a cd... RAWeaver

So is the Becker & Sanz challenge this month's challenge really, or are challenges in this forum dead? I thought I saw the Becker & Sanz thing up there in Feb... :m
