Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Sep 18 2:50 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Can't use the pose functions before closing GUI scripts

I'm new to Poser python scripting so forgive me if this is obvious. I was trying to build a form with a button to insert a figure in the scene. The script worked, but it appears that you cannot start posing the figure (or use several parts of the main Poser interface) until you close the form. Is this true or have I just done something wrong? I've included the code I used and I'm running Poser 5 SR 4 on a PC if that makes a difference - thanks for any hep you can give

OK - figured this out. You have to cede control from the script back to Poser by calling scene.ProcessSomeEvents() every now and then from the GUI. This is best done using a timer (the after() method) as shown in the code sample attached. Hope this helps other folks out too, which is why I'm posting a reply instead of just deleting the post

See this thread for links to others that deal with this aspect of GUIs.
The scripts available in the "Free Stuff" are the best reference on how to do it.
