Subject: Network Rendering with poser5, Bodystudio & Max5.1

TeddyBe ( ) posted Fri, 12 March 2004 at 2:05 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 12:00 AM

Hi, I'm dealing with a MAJOR problem. What I want to do is simple: I want my max5.1 scene, witch holds models from Poser5, hosted via Bodystudio, to be rendered over my network (10 machines). My problem: It seems that every (network-rendering-system) PC needs the whole poser models, maps, etc... in the Runtime-Folder... It's about 4Gig big and we only started the job. How can I share 1 network-folder to be acessable by every PC? Or else, how do I solve this problem? I've installed Max5.1 on every system (1 full licens and 9 in render mode), I've installed poser5 on every system and registered them individually (1 full license and 9 render mode license), I've installed BodyStudio on every system (1 full license and 9 render mode license) Renderfarm works OK with max, even with my max5.1 scene, witch holds models from Poser5, hosted via Bodystudio, but my renderings are black if I don't copy the needed files from poser to the 9 other systems... I hope someone can help me and I also hope that I've explained my problem in a way anyone understands it !!! greetz, Steven NOULET - Belgium (Europe)

You might wanna bring this question to the 3dsMax forum if you haven't done so already. I'm not really sure about the answer, but perhaps someone there will know. I'm thinking not too many people here in the Poser forum are running their own render farm. No offense to anyone. ;-)

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

Here's an idea. May or may not work for you. Poser 5 allows multiple runtime folders. I'm not sure if you can have extra runtime folders outside of the poser directory or not, but if you can: 1) Get another hard drive in your machine that stores the the poser models. Put the models on this drive. Assign it a drive letter of "Z:" - it shouldn't be a D:, E:, or F: etc. drive because your other machines may have these mapped for the CD-ROM. 2) Map the Z: drive on that computer as the z: network drive on the other machines. 3) Update your Poser 5 installation on all the machines with the new runtime folder on z: Again, just a guess, but worth a try I think (assuming poser supports runtime folders outside of c: - I've never tried it)

yeah it does (the outside of C:) I have an old p4 runtime on C: p5 on F: (system is there too) along with p5's base Runtime then the Runtime I screw with as F:runtime2 but anyways hope that helps

I've installed poser5 on every system and registered them individually (1 full license and 9 render mode license) How'd you get a render-mode license? I haven't been able to get one...

First of all thanX for all the reply's!! Just Install Poser5, then SR4. While starting Poser5SR4 for the first time, enter the same serial as your 'working system'. That's it. I've solved the problem by copying the runtim folder to every single system on my 'renderfarm'. Now everything works great!!! IMPORTANT: You have to keep all the files in sync on every system. I've found a great program to do it automatically. It's called 'File Syncforce' and you can get it from http://www.objectforce.com It works fine and on every change in the runtime-folder on my working system, the program updates all the systems in my 'farm'... greetz, Steven PS: Check our trailer, made on Max with the help of Poser5, mimic and bodystudio. http://trailer.digitalmedia.be

As a point of note, if you run Poser 5 on more than one system using the same serial number at the same time, you are violating the EULA for the software, and therefore using it illegally.

It isn't. You can only work with one Poser at the same time!!! In fact, you can't use 2 poser versions with the same serial on a network at once!!! Copy from EULA of Curious Labs: Can I install Poser on more than one computer at a time? Yes. Your Poser 5 End User License Agreement (EULA) specifically allows you to install your copy of Poser 5 on more than one computer provided you never run that copy on more than one computer at a time. For example if you have a desktop and a laptop computer, you may install Poser 5 on both computers but cannot run the application on both computers simultaneously. You will need to register on both systems as they will create unique Challenge and Response codes for each system. Can I run the same copy of Poser 5 on more than one computer at a time? No. Running your copy of Poser 5 on multiple machines is a violation of the Poser 5 license agreement. Poser automatically checks your local network (if any) for other running versions using the same serial number. So, I don't violate the EULA, since I only run Poser on one System, the others just needs Poser to be installed, so my networkrendering works. In case you don't agree with me, tell me why Poser is telling me that I can't run it twice on different systems on my network, but doesn't tell me anything at all while it acess it with the networkrendering? greetz, Steven.

No, then your fine, hon -- just that I can't find any reference specifically to a network rendering license for P5, and wanted to make sure that you statement wasn't miscontstrued by others.
