Subject: Re install Vue Pro

arrow1 ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 4:06 AM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 12:52 PM

I have just tried to Reinstall Vue Pro on another drive and it won't open. I went to regedit and deleted the Vue pro folder from HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE SOFTWARE FOLDER and then went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and didn't find any Vue Pro folder there! I then deleted Vue Pro from registry in the Windows file.Rebooted and then loaded the CD and installed the program on another drive (also disconnecting my firewall) Everything seem to load ok,installing Mover and rendercow and even opening the program and downloading the update.Rebooting again and going to the program folder and it won"t open. I am lost! Any Help! Please? arrow1

What's your operation system?

estherau ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 6:02 AM

Oh that sounds scary. Have you got it backed up on another disk drive somewhere? Maybe if it can see that copy you can't have more than one copy so you might have rename your other vue folder or disconnect the spare drive maybe. You've tried reinstalling again I suppose. Was it a sidegrade from vue 4? Love esther

Having a copy is not disturbing at all. But as I understoud, Vue Pro was uninstalled before he re-installed. If not, he can copy the entire Vue folder to another drive. I did it more then once, especially while beta testing, but also after. No problem. (Windows XP Pro)

lingrif ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 7:15 AM

You might want to use the search function in regedit to make sure there aren't some stray keys floating around in there. Also, check the settings for the icon you are clicking on to start Vue (the icon may be pointing to the old install).

I have deleted the old shortcuts. What I cannot work out is all these problems started when I installed the new updates.I have another copy of Vue Pro on another machine which only has 768 megs of ram ,1.8 gig Athlon processor a GE Force force 400 Nivedia Video card and shares Poser Propack on the same drive and only has about 15 gigs of free disk space.I also installed the updates on this machine and it stopped importing the Poser textures. However the program still works.
I wanted to put a copy of VuePro on a larger drive on my larger machine but I was concerned it only had 20 gigs of free disk space. It was working ok on this machine and I uninstalled it as previously mentioned.I don't know how bits can be left out if I am installing from an original cd on a drive that has not been used. I may contact e-on and see what they say.Cheers arrow1

You have not answered my question about your OS. I know in XP, you also need to delete the VuePro.reg file from the Windows folder.

gebe ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 2:14 PM

Why are you speaking about new updates in plural? You only need 1 update.

arrow1 ( ) posted Thu, 18 March 2004 at 3:07 PM

Sorry,I am getting confused! I will start from the beginning.I have two machines connected via a router both running Windows XP Professional. And each with a copy of Vue4 and Vue Professional, Mover and Rendercow. All were running ok! I downloaded the Beta update with Mover 5 and installed it in both copies.Neither programs would import the textures with my Poser figures.I followed the threads about going into preferences and adding Poser runtime texture paths. This did not work so I thought I would reinstall Poser on my more powerful machine as I wanted to put it onto a drive with more disk space anyhow! The rest I have explained. To answer some of the questions...My Vue Pro is a Sidegrade which I purchased when the program was first released.I have to enter three serial numbers to activate it.VuePro,Vue4 and Mover.I also deleted the Vuepro.reg file from windows.I have to go to work now! I will contact the thread again tonight when I come home from work. Many thanks to all for your patience and interest in helping those of us who are not fully familiar with Vue and computers.Cheers arrow1

I'm thinking it would have been better if you'd just deleted the vue folder and not worried about all those other things you deleted, as some of them may be necessary for the sidegrade to be recognized properly as a sidegrade and ask for your old vue 4 serial no. etc. Love esther

Maybe reinstall vue 4 first? And then try Vue pro again.

Possibly there is a protection inside Vue 4 pro. Normally you only have the right to have a software on 1 machine (that's what you payd for), not on 2 machines. Especially if they are networked, it could be that it doesn't work because Vue 4 Pro finds out that it is already installed on your second (or main) machine..

arrow1 ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 4:45 AM

That is a possibilty gebe.Although I have had both running for quite sometime linked this way without any problems. However I am going to uninstall the other program on my second machine as I only need one copy running. Should I uninstall Vue 4 and then do a complete reinstall with both Vue4 and VuePro? arrow1

You don't need to uninstall Vue 4. Vue 4 and Vue 4 Pro are very different standalone programs. On both machines you just need to keep or to reinstall render cow. I have on my machine Vue 2, Vue 3, Vue 4 and Vue 4 Pro (the old versions are there to be able to answer questions to users who are using them) What I did when Vue Pro came out: I made a copy of Vue 4 (from drive E) to another drive (F) and installed the sidegrade over the copy without problem. I just had to write manually a sentence in the Vue Pro.reg when I installed Mover 4. It did not want to "update" the reg file, I don't know why. BTW I never install any important software on drive C where my Windows is (XP PRO), because if ever I need to reformat C, I can keep save my software (VUE) files:-)

Gebe,What would be your suggestion to get me out the of the mess I am in now? I have unistalled VuePro on my main machine. But I still have Vue4 on it.The second machine which is not as powerful has both Vue Pro and Vue 4.However I want to remove them from this machine and put both programs on my other larger computer.I have two drives free. One has no programs on it and about 19 gigs free the other has over 80 gigs free but would share this drive with Poser Propack. Also this was the drive I had Vue Pro on previously. arrow1

I would uninstall Vu eand Pro from the "old" machine and clean the registry+reg file. Then I would copy the full Vue 4 folder from your drive on the powerfull machine to your empty drive (the one with 19 G) and make it run once to make sure it is ok. Then I would install the sidegrade over this copy (if you have the sidegrade and not the full version). Restart machine and make run Vue Pro once. It should then ask you if you want to update. Say ok and let it do. This worked for me.

Just one last question before I uninstall and move everything. Can I still move my old scenes, objects plants etc from Vue4 and Vue Pro to another drive and then export them to my large machine when I have installed Vue Pro? Cheers arrow1

If you want to continue to use Vue 4, leave it, if not, you can delete it. There may be reasons to keep it, because some objects created before Vue 4 (also from th efree stuff here and on other sites) cannot be read in Vue 4 Pro? They first needs to be opened and then saved under a new name in Vue 4, befor eyou can use them in Vu e4 pro. So, maybe keep it if it is not disturbing:-) "Can I still move my old scenes, objects plants etc from Vue4 and Vue Pro to another drive Yes, but I think you have done that already:-)
