Subject: We Need A Bollywood Glamour Gal and Guy - Place A Vote!

macmullin ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 11:00 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 12:27 PM

After seeing a number of posts in the forums about the lack of Hindu or Easter Indian woman characters and textures (men as well) have come to the conclusion

I think we all need a Bollywood Glamour Gal and Guy. I have decided to start my first very high-res project to create a female character (and after words later a male) based perhaps on one of the following personalities. Finding the proper resources should be relatively easy to work from.

I have added links to a number of these ladies pics so you will be able to see who the top five I have chosen to work from.

So.... Place your vote, at the bottom of the list and this will determine how I proceed from here.

Neha Dhupia (Fashion Model, Miss India, Miss Universe 2002)

  1. Neha Dhupia
  2. Neha Dhupia
  3. Neha Dhupia

Aditi Govitrikar (Fashion Model, Mrs.World 2001)

  1. Aditi Govitrikar
  2. Aditi Govitrikar
  3. Aditi Govitrikar

Malaika Arora (Fashion Model)

  1. Malaika Arora
  2. Malaika Arora
  3. Malaika Arora

Sonali Bendre (Fashion Model)

  1. Sonali Bendre
  2. Sonali Bendre
  3. Sonali Bendre

Sonali Kulkarni (Actress)

  1. Sonali Kulkarni
  2. Sonali Kulkarni
  3. Sonali Kulkarni

Other Hindu Female personalities that I might consider creating for a character if there is a large vote towards any of following.

  1. Meenakshi Seshadri
  2. Rani Mukerji
  3. Kajol Mukherjee
  4. Shilpa Kadam
  5. Karisma Kapoor
  6. Sri devi

I like Sonali Bendre and Malaika Arora. They don't seem as "Westernized" as the others.

Strixowl ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 11:36 AM

I vote for Sonali Bendre :-)

Um... why is it my responsibility (or the responsibility of anyone in this community) to make sure every single ethnic, sexual and racial group is equally represented? Do the poser users in India make sure that Americans are equally represented or Japanese equally represented? We don't have eskimos either, should that be the same amount of representation. If people from India want their actors and actresses represented then that's fine with me. Go for it. Glad you're showing women from Bollywood. The actresses look great. But as far as equal representation, that's up to the people who want to see these actors and actresses and not up to some requirement by me for equal status. Create the people you want to create. I might even buy a nice India girl model. But its not my responsibility to represent every single person or group nor is it anyone else's.

I vote for Kajol Mukherjee

Sonali Bendre is my vote..but I have to ask what is she gonna wear? I mean we saw the fad of the arabian night male fantasy happend but what of real clothing for the charecter? she will need a sari and all that wonderful adorments/jewelry. >.< and not just a texture for the morphing collar. Lori makes some wonderful jewelry and so does Richabri...stuff with substance and heft.

There are textures in the free stuff for a sari that Anton had created and used to sell on BBay. From the notes on the textures, the item is no longer available. Maybe we can convince Anton to rework it for V3 and S3.

Definitely Sonali Bendre!

Almack I found Kajol Mukherjee at the last moment before I made the post, I agree she's very stunning. But I think will need to go with the individuals who have the most reference materials on the net like Sonali Bendre or Malaika Arora. I will be collecting images for a week or more before I would start. Something else crossed my mind that along with the standard maps I could create additional traditional henna tattoos on the face, forearms and hands. I guess they last only about a week and only done for occasions like a wedding.

There is a Henna design kit on this webpage. Maybe you can get a good enough quality blow up of the sample images (click on picture).

This web page is about Henna art and has a good selection of pictures of tatoos for the different parts of the body.

Wow... thank you Pigfish for the links I see there pretty wild... I like. But there going to be real fun (like real hell) around the finger seams to texture... lol sigh :-)

They're all lovely... now what about the bollywood guy? No examples?

pigfish9 ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:01 PM

I love having cultural diversity for the characters. I think that's one of the things I love most about V3--the ethnic head morphs.

Wonderful idea! When you get around to doing a male character, you might consider Aamir Khan (who starred in "Lagaan") as a model.

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:20 PM

Oops, forgot to vote. Sonali Bendre. :-)

macmullin ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 4:32 PM

I have not thought about the guys as of yet. I guess one thing at a time. But I will look into Aamir Khan for starters :-) I figure they should look like a couple and complement each other. I would think merchants would sell couple packs as so the characters and their textures were/are relative and developed in the same style. Like the good'ld gal and guy on top of the wedding cake.

macmullin ( ) posted Tue, 16 March 2004 at 8:26 PM

I guess that Sonali Bendre has the biggest vote if any one disagrees. As my mother use to say - "Speak now or forever hold you peace" :-} Thanks Dale

Malaika Arora first choice. Sonali is second. For the same reason voiced by pigfish... these are beautiful without looking westernized. Malaika could also look Spanish or Gypsy (remembering where the Rom originated), but still obviously exotic.

I must admit I am tired of pinched nose pixie head american girls. Nothing wrong with it but more types would be great. There is a certain quality to the smile of India WOmen that are so pretty. I will look for a pic. My friend Moyra did a character for her texture set. Maybe if you contact her she can tell you what she used or release it as a MAT/morph pose. Here is what Moyra did.

This is Riya Sen. I think she looks good though not the smile I was looking for. Penelope Cruz would be ideal too. She has the right look

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, another great girl is Aishwarya Rai very striking. These three women seem to have the very same classic look. The thing for me to do now is to use Sonali Bendre as the base idea and create a character that is a compilation of a number these women in the personality. By the way Aton do you still have the costume and the textures above?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Wed, 17 March 2004 at 8:12 PM

I don't . No
