Subject: What's the best...

SomethingWicked ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 4:40 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 2:42 PM

What are the best days of the week to upload images to the Gallery so that they get a decent amount of exposure, but don't get buried by everyone else's images?

ynsaen ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 4:53 PM

there are none. Victim of success story...

A decent amount of exposure ? That's what some Vickies should look after... Anyway, the thumbnail is what catches the eye of the passers by. If you go for the easy way to the TOP 20, I'd advise to remember that "a good thumb is a boob thumb". (this being said, I never reached the TOP 20 myself) (and I never found any art of mine stolen on a leech site, to my great shame) Best wishes.

FreeJack ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 6:05 PM

Hey, Compiler, where are you looking or how do you search to see if your art has been hijacked? Jack

compiler ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 6:12 PM

I sometimes peer in the copyright forum and look at the links some people provide to leech sites. (just kidding, in case there was any doubt).

JVRenderer ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 7:26 PM

Interesting observation. I've reached the hot 20 twice, but both of the thumbnails I used didn't feature boobs. I concentrated on the face rather. I've gone over my images and found out that most of my "boobs" pics didnt get as many comments as the "non boobs" pics. That being said, I don't think that the boob thumb theory holds any water. I think an interesting expressive face with a story to tell in the thumbs attracts more hits than boobs alone. Just my 2 cents. BTW, I post my images in the AM's (1-3 am PST) JV.

Does Renderosity have a rule that says the thumbnail has to actually be based on the picture? I mean, what if I were to make a generic thumbnail of a boob and use it as a thumb for everything I post?

Yes, you can make a thumbnail unrelated to the picture. It will send your hitcount through the roof. People do it all the time, usually to make some kind of point. Someone posted a fractal with a sexy girl thumbnail. The image had a humongous hitcount, and he seemed to think it was proof that "only the tits get the hits." Personally, I think at least half the hits were because people thought they had clicked on the wrong link, and kept trying again. I know I did. ;-)

mondoxjake ( ) posted Fri, 19 March 2004 at 11:14 PM

I sure wish I knew the answer to this one. Top 20? I would probably jump and clap my hands if I could manage one picture that even got 20 comments....I don't want to be at the top, just want to rack up some comments even if they are critical..LOL. When I get 3 comments on 200 hits I have to think positive: Gee, 197 of the folks that looked were so overwhelmed by the picture they were lost for words!

heheh I used to talk to friends about how 20 all the time. -Upload image either Friday night after 5 est, Saturday morning 9am, or Sunday 10am for best viewings. -Use thumbnail that makes peple curious.(eyes, leg, boob, groin, thigh, navel, lips) _Make a thumbnail graphic that people will recognize and remember. -Postwork -Up to 2 weeks in advance abosutely rave over everything, especially the works of people who seem to be in the forum alot. Compliment those who frequently make comments. Try to get their email. ( this is PR marketing) -As soon as image is uploaded send out mass IM and email to all you friends and people on suck up list to go look at you image -While waiting for them to go look and vote, run around to their images and make fabu comments with !!!!!. They will see ebots about their gallery and think warm thoughs about you. -Add something slightly sappy in your image text to promote sympathy like "My house burned down, I just recovered fron death, or that you finally finished your image using the stick you type with in your mouth.) -Im and thanks everyone who commented on you image. -Remove people and such from IM, email lists who do not vote or comment. Focus on the ones that do Make sure figure's hair is long Make sure figure looks slightly horny Make sure figure has 33% flesh showing or more. no eyeglasses no yellow teeth or eyes no girls in pants lol Hope that helps. And remember nothing above substitutes for talent. It doesn't matter how many clicks you get. Don't make hot 20 your lifetime goal. But gimmicks often work. -Anton

PS: Same stretegy works for cheerleeding tryouts, beauty pagents, PromQueen, etc. There was a hysterical book on it written by a former clique godess/beauty queen but I foget what it was called.

It's a shame the HOT 20 actually means nothing...one big popularity contest Also look through the gallery before you post, if your pic resembles many of the others it will get hits and comments, if you make something unique and you are not on the popular people list, don't expect a big response. Just remember one thing, if YOU like your pic, that's all that matters, others will too, if not let them move on.

SomethingWicked ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 9:33 AM

Thank you all for your responses, and Anton, thanks for making me smile, which is a pretty difficult task so early in the morning. My goal isn't to make the Hot 20, or even the Hot 100, if there was such a thing. What I want are comments... preferably helpful ones. Even though I've been doing this for over a year, I'm not even close to being the caliber of artist, or hobbyist for that matter, that I'd like to be. I've found so much inspiration here and so many images that I can learn from, but that only goes so far. Yeah, I can show what I've done to my husband and he'll say it's great, but he HAS to do that because we're sleeping together! ;)

xoconostle ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 12:20 PM

Anton's strategy had me laughing out loud, probably there's a lot of truth in what he's saying. But in reality, witnessing that sort of behavior is frustrating, as I'd like to believe that the Hot 20 should be about artistic merit, not a kissy-kiss popularity poll. I don't look at the Poser Hot 20 very often any more, but IMO the Vue Hot 20 is a little better in this regard. You do see some of the same well-known names over and over, but their work is truly great, and almost never relies on nekkid breasts for votes. I just post my images when I'm ready to do so, but I've definitely noticed that images posted on a Friday afternoon seem to get a larger number of hits for the first few days than those posted early or in the middle of the week.

Barbarellany ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 12:36 PM

Anton missed one other ploy to get hits. Post a message here with a link to the work asking opinions on something ie, I tried..., 3 years of work cumulating in... blah, blah, blah... Don't forget a catchy title to your message. If there is a link and something to be curious about people will follow.

mondoxjake ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 12:40 PM

Quoting SomethingWicked: >>What I want are comments... preferably helpful ones.<< I really think that is my prime goal for comments as well. I have viewed a few pix from 'big name' artists here and commented on some little thing I thought could be done to improve the pic...I have been surprised to get some response IMs thanking me for pointing it out. Surprising because their regular clique and fans just gave them the usual wow-beautiful-sweet adjective comments. This is turning the topic completely around, but on the theme of making comments I also like to tell the artist exactly the things that appeal to me....color, poses, etc. Sometimes "Nice Boobs" will work, but I always like to know what I did in a render that compelled the viewer to take a look.

Time for a shameless plug... check out the newest image and let me know what you think!

I won't say that I don't enjoy "wow-beautiful-sweet adjective comments", because I do, but the main thing I'd like to hear is how I could improve something. I can barely draw a stick figure, so Poser is a good outlet for me. I pick up a piece of this image and a piece of that one and try to put them together into something that I like and think that others, too, might enjoy.

Hey Pakled, I like that last one. Maybe I should try it sometime. ;) BTW, what is it with you guys and boobs anyway? I mean, they're nice and all, but still... LOL

I do post a link in the forums sometimes asking for opinions, but I'm genuinely trying to get help. You won't get help from comments left on a gallery image, you either get "Oh, Wow!" or "Oh, %^@#%^!." When I link from the forums, I don't get but maybe an extra comment or two on an image, if any, but I do get IM's regarding technique and critique, which I'm after.

Or get someone to post a comment on it like "this sucks" then post a rant here about it (with a link to the picture)...

I have to quote/comment one more time to SomethingWicked: >>what is it with you guys and boobs anyway?<< I normally use this to make a point as the boob thing seems to be what gets comments...the bigger and more unnatural they are the more comments they get. Me? I personally am more drawn to the renderings of shapely legs and/or nicely shaped and well rounded bottoms. Normal size breasts with the proper amount of gravity work for me. And the models don't have to have beautiful faces...I don't like to carry fantasy too far, will settle for more reality in a picture.

rreynolds ( ) posted Mon, 22 March 2004 at 11:02 AM

I wouldn't go so far as to qualify things as a popularity contest. There are some artists that have a following based on doing images that appeal to people. If one artist has been bookmarked by a couple hundred members, they're immediately getting all those peeks as well as new viewers who see the thumbnail in the gallery. Every new image by that artist is going to get more looks than the average image.

fauve ( ) posted Mon, 22 March 2004 at 3:12 PM

You forgot a time-honored strategy... make a sockpuppet Renderosity account, use it to leave a nasty comment on the just-uploaded image, then post as yourself, in the poser forum, a sad little "Look at this awful thing some troll just said to me" note. :)

ToolmakerSteve ( ) posted Mon, 22 March 2004 at 6:45 PM

Ah, an even better version of post #21, as it doesn't require cooperation from anyone else ;-)

mondoxjake ( ) posted Tue, 23 March 2004 at 6:21 PM

I guess rounding everything up in a nutshell: Setting things up to receive comments is more of an art than producing the graphic in the first place. [Tack a LOL on that!]
