Subject: (Let's try this again)...AgentSmith's PC back up and running!!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2004 at 10:06 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 2:47 PM

Well, after 2 more/new hard drives, an overnight bout of software data recovery, 15 burnt DVD's of now highly-prized backed-up data and another re-install of my OS....I THINK it's gonna work this time...;o) I've got a working PC and a triple espresso in front of me...I'm ready to come back to work, lol. Diving into the deep end, AgentSmith P.S. - So If you have Challenge entries you don't yet see, it's because I have been cut-off from Renderosity, I'll be catching up on entries/IM's/the Forum/etc, asap.

Welcome back. I can definitely empathize after having my main hard drive fail just a few months ago and having to go through the replacements, backups, reinstalls, and computer withdrawl.

I just get thoughts of you spending days on end in a garage with a computer in the middle up on a jack and bit's and pieces all around and you keep pulling a starting cord and it chugs to life for a few seconds before failing again. Oh! Just had an idea for a render.....

And here I thought you took the March Challenge prize money and split to Hawaii...

Good to see you back AS..... I know how losing a hard drive can be. I lost a 120 gig hard drive about 9 months ago. Was unable to recover anything from it. Hope you did a better job of backing things up than I did. Lol. Wade

there's prize money! damned HDs are evil buggers. my first drive blew up managed to recover nearly everything except my super-duper important college course of which there was only one copy in existance... IBM customer service were great and had a replacement drive with me in 14 days. thank god for P100s! i would have failed college without mine ;] John

I did lose a few things, nothing Bryce-related though. Lost some plug-in settings, some pictures, a few mp3's...I guess I can live with that, lol. If the drive I had to data recover from wasn't now my OS hard drive, I would have been able to recover most everything. I use Easy Recover Pro 6, btw. I swear the only thing better is hardware recovery. I've used that program a few times now in repairing the PC's of others, it's great. AS

how much? some of us aint rich! John

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 24 March 2004 at 5:30 AM

Not cheap at all. :o/ You can get the standard program for an individual for around $90. Pro starts at $500. Not for the casual user, lol. It's for when you are thinking of sending out a drive for hardware recovery anyway. AS
