Eovia Ships Amapi 7 Pro - A New Level in High-End 3D Modeling - Press Release #30 For Immediate Release Hi-level NURBS Modeling Complex Surfaces and Solids Trimming, Filleting, Connections Generalized Dynamic Geometry Advanced IGES / DWG Support Mountain View, California - March 25, 2004 - Eovia Corporation, developer and publisher of leading 3D software, today began shipping Amapi 7 Pro, the NURBS 3D Modeling Workshop for the Creative Designer that features drafting, conception and engineering-compliance in a single innovative environment. Amapi 7 Pros intuitive interface offers the designer an ideal tool to create three-dimensional drafts. Its comprehensive NURBS engine and feature set offer an advanced environment for conceptual design and its high-level communication capabilities through industry-standard file formats such as IGES, DWG or STL provide seamless integration into the manufacturing process. Amapi 7 Pro is the first tool in its class that works on Mac and Windows, handles both NURBS and polyhedral high-level models, and can perform both creative and technical tasks equally well. "Eovia reaches new heights in professional 3D modeling with Amapi 7 Pro," said Philippe Richard, CEO of Eovia. "This advanced version of the award winning Amapi combines the latest advances in professional NURBS modeling with a unique flexibility and creative freedom, from conception to manufacturing." Major New Features The Amapi Generation Reaches New Heights - Second in the new generation of Amapi products, Amapi 7 Pro is based on the architecture already put in place with Amapi Designer. High-end functions have been implemented such as advanced Open-GL and real time 3D display engines, new interface concepts as well as Amapi Designer 7's advanced functions and technologies. Comprehensive High-End NURBS Kernel - Amapi 7 Pro goes a step beyond its already exceptional range of polyhedral modeling tools with an advanced surface and volume NURBS modeling engine. Objects can be created using Amapi 7 Pro's powerful NURBS surfaces and volumes to produce perfectly defined and ready-to-be-manufactured models. Manifold Volume Construction Tool - The "Manifold Volume" construction tool is an extremely powerful and quick method for creating 3D hulls. The user can automatically generate volumes that use groups of intersecting surfaces to define its limits. Complex volumes can therefore be created with just one simple operation, by creating a specific number of surfaces that limit its hull. NURBS Filleting - Amapi 7 Pro makes it possible to create fillets as NURBS. The designer is freed from constraints imposed by geometric polygons that are often limited due to cracks or overlaps generated by polygonal filleting. Amapi 7 Pro's NURBS filleting tool is an indispensable addition to the modern 3D designer's toolkit, permitting the creation of bevels and chamfers on edges and corners, and on surface holes and cut-outs, as well as perfect object intersection smoothing. Connecting Surfaces - Yet another amazing new feature, Amapi 7 Pro's Connecting Surface tool offers skinning with tangency matching between two contours, cut-outs or surface extremities. Tangency and tension control have been added to assure perfect connections between surfaces or volumes. Finally, the perfect tool to easily join two complex shapes such as a cup to a handle, in real-time with full accuracy. Trimmed Surfaces - The natural NURBS extension of Amapi's cut tools, the creation of trimmed surfaces lets you create perfectly smoothed and precise punches, cuts or grooves. Any NURBS volume or surface can therefore be cut-out to create openings, connection contours or to silhouette a specific area using punches. NURBS Boolean Operators - Along the same technological lines as the above, Boolean operators such as volume intersection, union or subtraction have now been extended to NURBS models. The combinations are limitless and include embossing, imprinting and grafting, among others. Flexible and fast, the NURBS Boolean Operator tool conserves the intuitive visual approach included with all Amapi tools, giving you a fundamental and extremely powerful component to the Amapi 7 Pro 3D modeling workshop. Extended NURBS Technology Tools - All methods of display, selection and construction as well as most of the modeling and construction tools now support and take full advantage of the NURBS representations of Amapi 7 Pro's models. NURBS models can thus be created with 3D primitives, Gordon surfaces, multiple extrusions from cut-outs, thicknesses or even through converting polyhedral objects into NURBS patches. Generalized Dynamic Geometry - Amapi 7 Pro is the only tool in its category to offer a completely editable dynamic construction history. Any sequence of operations, even complex ones, can always be edited at any moment of model creation, at all levels of construction. For example, a cut-out can be moved or resized, even if it was created at an earlier stage of the model construction. The chamfer radius defining a part of an object might also be modified, despite other operations having subsequently been made to it. No other comparable tool on the market today gives you Amapi 7 Pro's level of editable Dynamic Geometry. Professional Import/Export Modules - Amapi 7 Pro offers you professional quality IGES and DWG Import/Export functions to communicate with other complementary CAD and manufacturing solutions while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of all models, curves, surfaces and volumes. Amapi 7 Pro includes support for the major exchange formats, including OBJ, STL, DXF, 3DS, VRML and EPS, which all benefit from "crack-free" tessellation technology. Perfect polyhedral models can be exported to complementary realistic rendering and animation tools for project presentation, as well as to rapid prototyping solutions such as the STL format. The EPS native format export also gives you the perfect way to transfer models to external technical illustration solutions. Finally, the native Carrara Studio bridge has been optimized and improved for even better integration and direct communication. Avanced Support for the MicroScribe Digitizer - Amapi 7 Pro offers standard support for the Immersion MicroScribe Digitizer arm, giving you a unique complementary tool for modeling based on existing physical models. Other New Features - Amapi 7 Pro's other new features include: Dynamic drawing assistants, extended Scene Tree-views, improved user interface, totally modifiable interface colors, a full tool palette display mode, curve projection onto NURBS surfaces, isoparametric line extraction, and much more! Pricing and Availability The English/International version of Amapi 7 Pro is available immediately, for both the Mac (OS X) and Windows platforms, at a suggested retail price of US$799. Upgrades and Sidegrades Users of Amapi Designer 7, Amapi 3D v6 and Carrara Studio 2 or 3 are offered these extremely attractive upgrade and sidegrade offers: Upgrade from Amapi Designer 7 to Amapi 7 Pro: US$329 Upgrade from Amapi v6 to Amapi 7 Pro: US$429 Sidegrade from Carrara Studio 2 or 3 to Amapi 7 Pro: US$429 For more information and to order Amapi 7 Pro please visit the Eovia website at www.eovia.com. I tried Amapi with demo version. I had no luck to make any good model with it. I only like Carrara and ZBrush. I made alot of models with it. It is probably easier if they put some Amapi and ZBrush tools in Carrara and I might get familiar with it. Some tools in Amapi didnt make any sense to me and I had no idea what Amapi's tools I should use to make a model I want. Lathe and Vertex in Carrara is easy to make models because I can make shape with just mouse. I dont need any weird tools to manipulate with like in Amapi. ZBrush is very powerful with ZSphere and Sphere modeling with symmetery technology. ZBrush and Carrara modeling technology is almost the same in reality what people make with glass, engine, dolls, toys, etc...

Mmmm. Must look for project to charge the client 429 plus for some technical illustration. And have like 6 weeks to make it. I am going to look for work that results from Amapi 7 Pro

I'm curious if Amapi 7 Pro can run on Windows98SE (even though it doesn't say it). I'm hoping there is a 7.2 patch soon for Amapi Designer.

Waldo, I have to totally disagree with you. You simply haven't learned how to use Amapi. After I spent a little time with Amapi, I couldn't stand to try and model in Carrara anymore, it was much more difficult to make what I wanted than in Amapi. All I do in Carrara is bring my models into the Vertex modler for shading domains or UV mapping. Extruding in Amapi is much better than latheing in Carrara's vertex modeler. Amapi has dynamic symmetry where you can see your smoothed version change as you manipulate the low poly side right next to it. Carrara's modeling technology is nowhere near as advanced as Amapi, and I'm just talking about Amapi Designer 7, Pro will be even more useful. Patrick Tuten

Patrick I am all ear. Do you have tutorial? Yes I have noticed some limitations with Carrara and that is why I used ZBrush for symmetery modeling. Do Amapi have similiar to ZBrush symmetery transform function? One thing I hate the most in Carrara is that I have to click every polygons to make it move like symmetery. And it does not have all directions to move it. Lathe in Carrara has some problem. I told Eovia numberous of time that it need all 3 (axis) planes with beazer curve control on every section or points for more precision modeling.

hi Waldo,im not sure what you mean but amapi has Dynamic Symmetry Modeling,i think that is what you want to know(take a look at the product tour for amapi7 on the eovia site). i make my models in amapi7(soon in amapi pro, woohoo) and make some additional modeling in zbrush(when needed).i really like to use the spline modeler in carrara and i really dont like to use the vertex modeler very often.
