G's Donald.....LOL Your lottery wishlist is expensive! ha ha! Jinx

if that is a 4:3 screen, it would be 80 x 60 ... and it would be about the size of a queen sized bed! What ever made them think of that? MGD

Scary part is, the article I originally saw this in had a "if you bought it now" price for it. $70,000 ... cringe See, this is the kind of stuff I'd get if I hit the lottery. And then, when people found out and invariably say "Wow! That's huge!! What do you watch on it??!" I could look them in the eye and with a straight face say, "Oh .. the only thing I ever watch on that one is my collection of 70's porn ... good 70's porn." Then I'd walk away. See ... you can't just spend it, you have to enjoy your money too. :) hehehe -=>Donald

Whoops..almost forgot, go to www.samsung.com to see a video clip of the TV. MGD - It's ~80" diagonally, so it's around 69.5" x 44.5" x 3.5" (man, 3.5" thick ... sheesh!). -=>Donald

Donald- Used for wall paper at a certain house on a lake near you.

"Oh .. the only thing I ever watch on that one is my collection of 70's porn ... good 70's porn." There is no such thing, hmmm... well maybe one or two.... but I digress.... you and my husband should get together. I'm drowning in a sea of Home Theatre Review and other such monthly magazines, as my husband plans the home theatre for the basement.... eh... the whole basement... sigh

Just measured my livingroom.....if I knock out the wall between my living room and my dining room...with a slight indentation into my bedroom, not to mention a few inches into my garage....(haven't talked with my next-door neighbor yet - but I don't think he'd mind a slight plasma protrusion into his family room....extending into his kitchen - it's up to him to speak with his other neighbor...just to see if it's OK if the thing extends into THEIR kitchen....it's all in the works!

@Michelle ... Dolby 5.1 or THX 7.1 Speaker System? Seats, benches or theater seats? Popcorn machine? Cookie counter? Power rating for the Amp? So many questions ... (G)

DHolman ( ) posted Fri, 26 March 2004 at 4:55 AM

First, you gotta go with the new generation of Plasma displays (like the Samsung). They use GHz technology to wireless get video/audio to the display (so the only wire coming from the TV is the power cord). And I know common sense says most high end DVDs only go to Dolby 5.1, but I'd have to get Dolby Digital EX (extended surround), just because it's too freaking cool. :) And then, you gotta get the proper seating. No La-z-boys or couches. Find a movie theater that's shutting down, get 4 or 5 rows of 6-8 seats. And a popcorn machine .... gotta have that. And a small candy counter...definitely. Ok 'chelle. I'm in!! Tell him I'm packing my bags and bringing my toolkits with me. Next time you're out, you probably wanna pick up a whole lot of concrete. We're gonna need it to slant the floor. hhehehe... -=>Donald

'Cookie counter' How odd of me. I meant to say 'Candy counter' ... actually, 'Snack bar' might cover all bases. How are the designs coming along for the usherettes uniforms? MGD

Michelle A. ( ) posted Fri, 26 March 2004 at 2:38 PM

LOL! I don't know nothing... I don't say nothing... It's his basement... and I'm a total dummy when it comes to electronics... unless it's photography related. I get the third floor all for me and my studio... Of course once the basement is finished we won't have any money for it! sigh Men......

@MGD - Hey, I got no problem with a Cookie Counter.... ooooo .... munching on those large macedamia nut cookies. Of course, you'd weigh about 500lbs in a few months .... I think I'm willing to risk it. :) @Michelle - Don't fret, I'm sure the Tedzo would be more than willing to walk you through his course on "The Fine Art of Brick Shopping". I hear it saves a lot money. :) -=>Donald

MGD ( ) posted Fri, 26 March 2004 at 6:00 PM

@Donald - What a great idea ... after Tedz helps select the bricks, we should ask if he will help design the uniforms for the usherettes. MGD

Will this home theatre be ready in time for the DVD release of "The Return of the King"? (Only half-joking: the first two movies have been widely used by reviewers as test material, and if you can show both Caradhras and Moria properly, your display has to be set up right.)

And after checking the report... 1000 candelas per square metre is roughly a third of the brightness of the mid-day north sky, accorind to my old Weston meter. I don't know how it compares to normal TV displays, but remember to buy good curtains.
