Subject: Converting

I have purchased a product that is for V3, but made in Poser 5. I do not have Poser 5, although in the readme file, it is written that poser 4, PP users have to "convert the .jpg Bump maps to .bum format." How do I go on doing this?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 8:40 PM

Quick way to do it: Launch Poser 4. Select the ground plane. Open the material panel (CTRL-U) and load the JPEG as a bump map. P4 will automatically convert the JPEG to .bum format and save it to the same folder as the original. Repeat as necessary. Pro Pack and P5 will not convert files to .bum format. Pro Pack and P5 users can edit CR2s and MAT poses so they look for the JPEGs instead.

Ok, I think I got the Idea now, Slowly. These .jpg Bump maps are located in the textures folder under the required named folder and not the Pose files? But anyways, I encountered a new problem, that is Head Maps (product). Head is one skin textured color, and then the body another skin texture color. It sure doesn't look right, and can see the line on the neck part. Like if the character is wearing a mask. Now, how do I go on about having same skin tone color on head and body? Man this is freaking annoying.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 10:23 PM

Maps generally go somewhere in the texture folders, yes.

MAT poses will usually set all the material colours for you, if any are provided with the product.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 11:42 PM

Mat files were provided, but only for Poser 5. Quote from the readme file. "The Textures, Morph Injection are also compatible with plain Poser 4 and Poser 4 with Pro Pack. With Poser 4 you will have to manually convert the .jpg Bump maps to .bum format. The MAT Poses only works with Poser 5 (Sorry folks I am not a Poser 4 user)" First Product for me, and do I ever feel jipped. Buyer beware I guess. I am learning.

Kelderek ( ) posted Mon, 29 March 2004 at 12:59 AM

You can edit the MAT poses to work for Poser 4. Open them in a text editor (WordPad works fine) and change all the references to the .jpg bumpmap to point to the .bum bumpmap instead. You can use the "Replace" command in WordPad to replace "bumpmap.jpg" with "bumpmap.bum" (or whatever the files are calle)

Kelderek is right, but I would add that it's always a good idea to make backup copies before editing files. As to feeling jipped, it depends how the product was advertised, if it was not made clear that it is not fully Poser 4 compatable, or stated that the product was for Poser 5, then I think you are justified in feeling jipped.

It's not clear whether you have Pro Pack or not. If you do, you don't need to do any converting. If we're talking about just the bump maps, the MAT poses should work also.

I am using Poser Pro, with Victoria 3 with, head and body morph paks. I am really having difficulty with this product. I have purchased another one along with it, and I do not have problems with it. But I am new to this, I didn't know what to watch for. Their is always a first time, like buying a car. I did read the readme file, and the requirements. Quote; "Poser 5, Poser 4 with Pro Pack, Poser 4 (please read above)" But I feel this product is more strickly for Poser 5, which I prob will purchase way in the future. When I click on the product "INJ" in Poser Pro, after selecting a V3 character, I get error messages "Warning: Cannot Open RuntimeLibraries!DAZVictoria 3MalePakChaVis......" and so on. I do not have a MalePak folder under Victoria 3. Where does this come from? Micheal 1, 2, 3? Which I do not have at all. I realised after using the product, their is flaws, that now I can see it even in the advertised screenshot. Just wished their was a body texture to go with the head Maps product. I am unable to find a body texture to match the head texture. Unless if I had a turtle next sweater to go with it, then maybe I could get away with it. It is really terrible a pain, struggling with this product.

There is a Male Pack for V3, which morphs her to a male. From the error massage, it looks like this product requires you to have that pack. If that wasn't obvious when you bought it, you should contact the creator and/or the site you bought it from and maybe request a refund. Since you are running Pro Pack, you do not need to convert the .jpg bump maps to .bum bump maps, they should work anyway.

Well, if you have V3 and her morphs, this can't be a first product, but there is a separate male pack for her. There should have been a "required product" list available when you bought the product. Over at DAZ it is under the product description, and here at Renderosity there is a readme file which you can click on and read before purchase. Most stores have such a setup so that customers know what they need and whether it will work, before laying their money on the counter. One thing, before applying the textures... is your figure totally white? Also, does the seam at the neck show when rendered, or only in preview? (They don't always disappear in rendering, but sometimes.) Another thing, you can almost always reach the venders with a question. Some answer their emails or IMs immediately, others aren't quite as quick (and remember that this is a global community so they may be sleeping when you query them). Carolly

I have read the ReadMe file before purchase and their is nothing about a guy (male) pack required. Only Poser 4, 4.03, PP with Victoria 3, Head and Body morph packs. Also in the Readme file, Poser 4 users are to manually convert the .jpg Bump maps to .bum format. I have Poser 4-Pro With V3, Head and Body morph backs. I get about 15 of those Missing Male file error Messages in Delta's and ChaVis. I have emailed the Creator of the Product twice and his first response took months and the other response he/She hasn't not replied back yet. I am about to send another email, but I feel he/she is not going to respond. I have purchase another product lately and I feel very proud of it. But my first one (Head Maps), is a loss.

The Product is "Alasunthia Head Maps", http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=19789 if you look at the screenshot and at the neck part, you will see how fustrating it can be without the body skin texture to match. Also read the Readme. I should have been more precise earlier on the product.

Requirements: -Victoria 3, Victoria 3 Head Morph Pack, Victoria 3 Male Morph Pack, Victoria 3 Body Morph Pack (the body morph is optional but I recommend it) - All with their latest updates from www.Daz3d.com needed to properly apply the head morph injection. *** Credits: Hair by Kozaburo (not included in this package) Body Texture by Daz3d (not included in this package) ************************* The third item listed is the male morph pack. I am not a fan of dividing a character or a product into basic and addons... it doesn't really allow more choice, it just means that the purchaser has to buy a lot more packs, and spend a lot more money, in order to get a complete item. Since this is advertized as an androgynous head, you will need that male pack, too. The neck seam does show slightly in two of the lower images on the first page, but the other pics are all cropped. In order to get a better match, you can do three things. You can buy the texture maps from DAZ. You can work with the eyedrop tool and open up the full color picker dialogue box (where you can type in precise numbers) and very slightly tint the body map. You can open up a paint program and make your own upper body texture map by cloning portions of the neck... but remember the scaling difference! You will almost certainly have to do the first 2 unless you are fluent in PhotoShop. Carolly

AHHHH...I need glasses.

Never heard of a Victoria 3 "male" morph pak. But I guess I got to look into this.
