I've been trying to find a green man in 3D free or otherwise without any luck so far, need him for a personal website design I'm doing for my partner. Any links I might have missed would be greatly appreciated :o)

I haven't seen anything like that... perhaps because it would require more modeling than painting to do right. Years ago, I did a set of the 4 elementals as heads for WorldsAway (online social community). Having something along this line in real 3D would be great. I've got a stack of projects and few good hours, but it might be good to dust off Carrara and see about shaping leaves. Speaking of dusting off... (and sorry for the jpg squishing) I also did a dryad head with leaves for hair. This sort of thing might actually be easier to model, since a person wouldn't have to imagine what the side or back views would be like! Carolly

I just stuck the image up as a reference just in case someone said "Who the hell is..." :o) Those elemental heads are gorgeous! I've been trying out Traveler's feral mike morphs and a couple treant models I've got, nothing comes close enough so far... A dryad male might be something to look into, thanks for the idea!

Ask at FaerieWylde http://www.faeriewylde.com/ I have a vague memory of a greenman for Poser, but can't find it on my hard drive.

Perhaps a flat plain with a slight curve and transmap, then position them in place, y-scale the one in front and x-scale the one at the mouth, use to sphears with a transparent setting for the eyes...? I have an scanned ivy leaf with transmap if you want it?

I would love the scanned leaf with transmap if you could kick that to me? Thanks, Marque

Sorry, I fell asleep last night before I saw your response. These are made for a 512x512 square I was going to make a posable vine with but have been too pre-occupied with my studies to follow through. Here is the pre-UVmapped square (just delete the ".txt" off the end after downloading the txt file) I still have the original PDF if you would rather have that but it's 1.1meg so I would have to e-mail it...

igohigh ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 11:30 AM

Ooops, After downloading the above Message1724684.txt (or right click, save as, and give it a name Leaf.obj) then just re-name it to Leaf.obj or whatever...

igohigh ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 11:35 AM

I've also got a sprig of firn and some other leafs I scanned but haven't processed them yet from their raw TIF format and the range from 8~16meg...

Thanks for the leaf transmap :) I can't paint for a heck but I'll see what I can do with this.

Could something be done in the terrain editor in Bryce? (or similar utility - where the height of the map is related to greyscale?) I think it can be sculpted like that, but exporting to a Poser-usable format would be tricky. Carolly

fauve ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 12:55 AM

Holy moly, Carolly, you're the one who did those? I was a dedicated Worlds Away (and Pride World) user for a long time... just seeing those Elemental masks again brought back some happy memories. :) They're beautifully drawn... you're very talented!

Bryde ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2004 at 2:10 AM

It should be do-able in Bryce with a good greyscale image, but you would only get the face without the back of the head. You could export the terrain as an obj file and then import into a modeller application like Wings3D or Anim8or and reshape and model the back and maybe some of the side of the head... If you add the back and side of the head in Bryce with boolean or metaballs or such, I doubt that it then can be exported into obj - but terrains can be exported into a useful format. If you just need the face part, it would be worth a try with a greyscale highfield map in the terrain editor of Bryce or maybe even in Terragen.

Fauve, 😊 Most of the faces I did were like this batch: typical males. (Well, maybe not that typical.) I did a number of animal heads, too. However, my first love is fantasy, so doing elves and fauns and dragons was great. I showed Sheryl, our Art Directer, the front view of the green man and suggested a series of elementals. Her eyes lit up and, IIRC, they were a premium or reserved item. Because of the replaceble colors, users got to decorate themselves. We were always amazed at the creativity of the folks online: making turtlenecks and gloves with a quick dip in the paintpot, or figuring out how to coordinate their steps so as to walk hand-in-hand, or furnishing their spaces with a rearrangement of props. I did avatars for a couple of other online chat sites, but WorldsAway was by far the best, both to work for, and for the world created by the users. It was based on Habitat, and Chip Morningstar was one of the guiding influences in the direction of it. There was a lot of thoughtfulness behind the scenes. I'm glad that you remember it so well. I'll let Sheryl know... it will please her, too. Carolly

Attached Link: Reflections of Illusions

I just stumbled over this page "Reflections of Illusions" and there are two woodland spirits thingies for Bryce 5. They are in obp format, but if they are done in the terrain editor, they must be able to save as obj or 3ds. They should do fine if you just look for something to hang up on a garden wall or something on that line. I don't have Bryce here at work, so can't check it out myself...
