Subject: Problems moving MAT files?

Hi All. Relatively new to Poser.

Today I purchased a package of what I would call props. I unzipped and installed them and of course they were in the Figure library. I moved them to the props directory and renamed the files from cr2 to pp2. That worked fine.

Then I tried moveing the MATerial files from the Pose library to the props directory. I renamed the pz2 files to pp2. But when I tried to apply a MAT file from the prop library to an object, it froze while trying to render. Can MAT files be move to another library or must they be in the Pose library? Was the freeze up just a fluke or an indication that what I tried was not a wise thing? Any information would be helpfull.

Props could be figures also. CR2 files are Poser figure files...there's probably a good reason the vendor made them figures instead of props. PZ2 files are pose files. All MAT files are PZ2's. Some people do move them to the Camera library after renaming them *.cm2 and they still work. I don't know that you can do what you did, renaming them as props and putting them in the Prop library. Never heard of that being done before, although I don't know what caused your freeze-up.

MAT poses are generally applied to figures. They can't be applied to props unless those props are already parented to an existing figure. In any event, MAT poses won't work at all if placed in the Props library, but they can be renamed and relocated to the Camera and Hand libraries.

Little Dragon... I think that IF the prop is originally a cr2, and then renamed/moved to props folder as a pp2 MAT poses will still work on it.. I'm not 100% sure , I've only done it once with one of my props, but as far as I remember, the MAT poses still works on it (It's a payphone and I have a mat that removes the reciever and part of the cord with a transparency-MAT pose) As far as I know it works fine on my phone. But you're right, in general it only works on parented props. And MAT poses must be in Poses (or cameras/hands), not in Props where they certainly won't work.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Relocating the objects from Figures to Props worked fine. Apply MATs from Pose to props worked fine. It just crashed after I moved and renamed the MAT files. Thanks for the information, everyone! DrOsborn
