Subject: mat pose convertor help please

PandaPride ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 3:47 PM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 2:39 PM

hey guys! I'm just starting to learn the mat pose covertor. When I add the texture and try to save the mat pose, it saves, but when I go to try ahnd apply the texture it renders in all white. Is the texture even applying to the mat pose I'm trying to make? does anyone know what's going on or how I can improve on this? thanks---Essie

Essie, have you tried rendering after applying the pose to see if it is really there? Otherwise, make sure your display is set to the last circle setting on the right at the bottom of the main Poser window. Maybe someone else can remember the name of that view setting. My PC won't let me open the Explorer and Poser5 at the same time :(

yes I've tried rendering, and it always comes up blank. sucks! I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I'll give your advice a try. to see what happens, thanks so much! ---Essie

What type of figure are you applying the MAT file to? If it is a prop or a hair prop, you have to parent the prop to a character before the MAT file will work. Other things that could go wrong (and I speak from experience:-) The texture is not applied to all of the components of the figure; you don't have the strength setting high enough for whichever node/box (P5/P4) i.e., bump, trans, text, etc. One thing you can check is to apply the MAT pose then go into your material settings and see if they are actually loaded. I use MAT Pose Edit (a freebie) and it works just fine. I just hate creating new .png files.

...and if you're using MAT Pose Edit please make sure it's the latest version (currently v3.1.3 beta 2). The previous versions don't save texture strength properly if the source file was made with P5 SR4, resulting in plain white materials.

I love the new beta version of MAT Pose Edit. I discovered something that makes life easier with it. I was making MAT files for Royloo's "The Bed" and having trouble saving my rendered .png files (100x100 pixels). I finally figured out that the original thumbnail picture was "Read Only" so the program couldn't overwrite it. I just changed the properties on all of them and it worked great. It is so nice to not worry about typing in the names--you can just overwrite the existing .png files.

I'm glad you noticed that feature in MPE 3.1.3b2, pigfish. There are actually many potentially useful features in MPE 3 that most users are unaware of because those features are undocumented... like the ability to save the file information in HTML format (see the attached URL for an example). I'll soon add some more documentation to my web site so that people can take full advantage of the program.

So you're using Mat Pose Creator by JHoagland (commercial), not MAT Pose Edit (freeware), right? If you want to try MAT Pose Edit, please take a look at the attached URL, it's a pretty good tutorial by Mercytoo for making MATs with MPE.
