Oh wow! This is a bummer. First Brycetech, now the Bryce Forum Gallery is no more. You can read about it at the link.

Well if this isn't an April fool's prank I will cry.

Well I didn't think of that. (April's Fool Day). I was just too bummed out when I saw that.

Damn, that was my first Bryce experience...

it's been slowing down lately, and I've noticed that a good fraction of the link sites point directly to here..I also have noticed that there's just a handful of artists who post there..in fact, that site led me to this site in the first place. hope it's not true..

As pakled and ddruckenmiller said,.......that gallery was the first place I ever posted,........the first place I had any contact with others in the Bryce community. My world will be diminished by it's disolution. I tender my thanks to Mr.MacLeod for his years of unfaltering service, and wish him well in whatever endeavors he pursues in the future. This can't be, it is such sad news. Towards the end of last year I got an award from there which made me so happy I could burst 'cos it was the first Bryce site I ever saw and I know that the art work there, that gets into the main gallery, is of merit. Hi folks, Thanks for your kind words about the Bryce Forum Gallery! I realize that my gallery has been a stable resource for a very long time in the Bryce community. But gallery participation has slipped over the last year and I made the decision to go out while it was still vital rather than just letting it fade away. As previously pointed out, a huge number of the links pointed to Renderosity. Although I really like Renderosity (Im an active contributing member), the relationship was beginning to erode the fundamental original purpose of my gallery. My original idea was to have artists post links to their personal web galleries, and not have to rely on service style galleries like Renderosity. This system would bring visitors directly to the artists web site. At the time I created my gallery the big full service guys like Renderosity and 3Dcommune did not yet exist. It would seem that digital artists like the Renderosity metaphor, and links to private galleries can be supplied by simply by joining the webring. This put me in a tough position. I could turn my gallery into a Renderosity style gallery simply by buying and installing similar software. But it would really only be duplicating the active Bryce community already at Renderosity. The beauty of the Bryce Forum Gallery is that it was Bryce-only. That was also its biggest weakness. The judging panel part of my gallery is a very cool concept and has yet to be implemented at any other gallery as effectively, but that is not a compelling enough reason to keep going when you look at the situation as a whole. Im sorry to be so long winded but you people are friends and I feel like you deserve to know whats really going on. I plan to be posting to the Renderosity Bryce gallery soon and I look forward to see you all there. All the best! Bruce MacLeod

Hmm, can understand all that you said, Bruce, and sort of agree - better to go out on top than when your a shadow. But nonetheless, the Gallery will be missed. (If you don't mind, though, I'll still hang out for April 2 in the hope to see "fooled ya" written everywhere... though as its already halfway through the 2nd where I am, things aren't looking too good :/)

Thanks for all your efforts, Bruce. I remember seeing the artwork there, such a long time ago and thinking, "How do they do that stuff?". I've been fortunate to win a few Select Awards and they are truly meaningful.

A milestone is past, six years is a LONG time in the internet/computer world. I bet Bruce has seen the Bryce renders really change over the years. Still, I'm sad to see his gallery stop accepting new pictures. It truly affects me. AgentSmith

Really sorry to see this happen. The gallery is where I first discovered Byrce when ver4 just came out. I was amazed at what the program could do. The gallery was the "show and tell" if you will, and the who's who of the Bryce world. I've even met some of the artist who posted their work there. Time does move on and people move on as well. This is kinda like seeing your childhood candy store being torn down. I was lucky enough to been able to judge once which was a lot of fun . The CNN special a couple of years back was another real treat where I finally got to put a face with the guy who ran the gallery. Thanks for the 6 years of hard work you put into it Bruce. Have fun with your new endevors :-)

Truly sad news, but understandable.

I'm with Flak, hoping that April 2nd brings better news. I mean there are 365 days in a year, after 6 yrs, you would think he could have waited one more day to post his sad news! Unless of course he's from a country where April 1st is just another day. still waiting

I'll miss the BFG! If Renderosity is a great democratization, BFG was a benevolent monarchy with a governing council! And, it seemed to fit like a warm mitten. Part of the charm was knowing there was someone dusting up, and pulling the levers... Not that the model couldn't be done at 'rosity, but it might be hard to automate, or become a full-time job. Bruce points out that many of the links were already to pages here, but there were lots of others that were wonderful, it's those I might not have otherwise found. Thanks, Bruce.
