Subject: To Numanoid and other Starship builders

I am hoping to convince someone to make, model or point me toward a 3d copy of Joss Whedon's Firefly, interior and/or exterior. I recently purchased the DVD brick for this show and I fell in love. Thanks, Shogakusha

Mmmm, some more information, a picture or a weblink to a picture would be nice. Then we can see where we are, or just go back to the car, la la la .......

Sorry, I was at work and dropped in for a quick note. Follow this link for what I hope will be sufficient pics of the Firefly class starship.

THanks for considering!

hmm..could probably knock off a low-poly version of this, but numanoid's better on details..back to the hookahpipes..;)

A spaceship I would like to see someone making is the nadesico from martian successor nadesico. The program was on the british science fiction channel recently.

texmextortilla ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 9:14 PM

I'll take a crack at nadesico, i have plenty of source material to work with seeing as i just bought the perfect collection and can rent the movie. (Thank God for ADV & Hastings)

numanoid ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 10:45 PM

OK, I am going to an African jungle for four weeks (15 April to 15 May, not kidding) and I will not be able to finish this before I go because I am still busy with the Nostromo and the Narcisus (and twenty other things, lol). I just finished three vehicles for the Colonist Complex from Aliens, one to go, and 5 buildings to go. If no-one has started the Firefly by the time I get back, I will do it. You could ask JHoagland, I am not sure what he has got lined up, but he has a list he is working through. Beautiful ship though.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 11:43 PM

Texmextortilla it would be good if you can make the nadesico, I have no reference photos of it and no dvds either or I would try it myself.

Shogakusha:

Have you seen these renders of the Serenity?

The Serenity had a brief cameo in Sci-Fi's Battlestar Galactica miniseries, by the way.

shogakusha ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 8:17 AM

LD, thanks for the links to those renders! Do you sleep or just drink coffee and maintain some sort of super database of 3D tidbits }-) Numanoid...4 weeks in the African Jungle?! Very cool (maybe hot). Enjoy your trip, that sounds like a fascinating adventure! Thanks all for your help and consideration!

pakled ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 9:21 AM

Little Dragon is well known for his legerdemain in finding web sites for anything..while some of us have huge, unwieldy databases, LD reaches directly into the web with Zenlike clarity and culls the relevant URL's..he's the King, I'm only the Duke of URL..;)

Version one isnt very accurate, version 2 will be, but I am working on other things at the moment. Version 2 relies for its accuracy on the images posted at fireflyfans.net. shogakusha, thanks for bringing this thread to my attention. No doubt I will get in the mood to finish the version 2 serenity more when firefly DVD comes out in england.

Dave ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 11:07 AM

Where does one go to show off the starships one's built? I'd like to get constructive criticism on a WIP. Posting here would be kind of off topic. Dave

biotech ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 11:09 AM

Thats what the galleries are for. Just upload your image, and make a smaller version for the thumbnail.

Dave ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 11:17 AM

Yeah, but it gets buried in the galleries. I'd like to find a forum where it's mostly ship builders. Dave

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 1:43 PM

I'd suggest the forum for whatever software you modeled it in. If you made it in Rhino, ask in the Rhno forum, if it's Max, use the Max forum and so on :o) I agree the galleries aren't made for things like that.

Dave ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 2:45 PM

Not exactly what I was looking for. Surely there's a site out there somewhere where folks post their starship WIPs. Dave

numanoid ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 6:40 PM

It usually depends on the package used to make the spaceship. For instance, http://www.lwg3d.org, is where you would go if you where using lightwave to model the spaceship. A good site is scifi-meshes, or theforce.net, and for Poser, because it's not really a modelling program, the closest to a sci-fi site is vanishingpoint.biz.

They might be heading towards becoming the type of site you're talking about, heck. You might just tip them over that edge and get the ball rolling if you bring it up as a topic in their forum. If nothing else, I'm sure they'd be glad to start a Topic for Sci-Fi Ship Builders there if you twisted their arms just a tad.

numanoid ( ) posted Wed, 07 April 2004 at 1:58 AM

Getting my twisting spanner ready. John will see this thread and should respond himself. If Vanishingpoint does go to the effort of making a forum for shipbuilders, I am going to be mighty upset if I am the only one there. Lets have a quick poll and see who else will actually use it? Dave? texmextortilla? Pakled? Biotech? Xantor? Jhoagland?

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 07 April 2004 at 4:53 AM

I will use it, when I can.

Dave ( ) posted Wed, 07 April 2004 at 8:49 AM

I'll post what I can. My attempts seem to be pretty pathetic in my opinion. Basically I'm trying to come up with my own creation and not recreating something that's already out there. Dave

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 07 April 2004 at 9:58 AM

I'll collect it..;) I'm still recovering from moving, so I'm still missing a computer desk..;) but don't let that stop ya..;)

Ok, this is *way* beyond anything I can do right now. The back half was tedious, but not too hard..the front half..is is *supposed* to look like a goose?..;) I'll leave this to the experts.
