Hi all !

Decided to give Vue 4 a go and dl'd the 4.22 upgrade last night. Spent most of yesterday eve and today's afternoon scanning through lots of links to tut's and recourses. There's a LOT of them out there .. :-)

What I'm mainly looking for is a small, stand-alone utility app that was around for Bryce some years ago (i.e 'a number of years ago').
It was a Sinus Wave Generator and it's only purpose was to generate concentric sinus wave rings and output them as a grayscale bitmap (height map). Think along the line of a waterdrop falling onto a water surface and the resulting wavepattern it produces.
The sinus wave was editable in phase and height within the app, either by numeric input, sliders or/and a 'pen tool'.

Besides having browsed through a lot of Vue resources I've also scouted a number of the remainders of the Bryce ditto, but found no trace of this app that I'm looking for.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about or - even better - know where this app can (eventually) be found ?

Yes, I know Guitta and others have tut's out for making waves in Vue (greats tut's they are, too ) and that a useable bitmap can be done in Photoshop with a bit of work. I could even use a spacewarp on a surface in Max and render it out with a mid grey texture on, but the beauty of this sinus wave generator was that you did the whole thing in one click and a minor effort of editing in just a few minutes.

Anyone who can make my day .. ?

Do you have Paint Shop Pro? There's a plug-in for the PSP called 'unplugged/radials' that can create concentric waves.

I don't know where I picked up the plug-in, but a question to the Jasc forum would no doubt yeild a satisfactory answer.

Another way with just Vue ;) Create a new scene with "no atmosphere" atmosphere. New scene -> Others -> No Atmosphere Switch to top camera. Delete the Sun. Select the Ground, and edit the material. Edit the Color function by right clicking on the dark sphere in the color tab (and choose edit function of course). Add a Wavelet function. You just have to click on the list near the bottom left corner (None) and choose Wavelet. OK. Change the colormap to have something that goes from white to black. Click in the colormap (which is normally beige) to edit it. OK, now we have to render. In the render settings choose a square format (ratio), it will be easierlater ;) and render! Save the Picture. Create a new scene (the final one) and add a terrain. In the terrain editor load the picture (in terrain option) you've just render and set it to 100%. Choose a good material for the terrain, scale the terrain prettily (z axis)and render! You can add a little sphere just over the surface toadd realism maybe:) Play with the function editor to get something you want! Hope it helps and that it is clear enough. Another way could be to add a wavelet function to a plane terrain (in the terrain editor) but it seems like you can't choose the origin of the function...Bizarre Anty

Your instructions are clear as a bell and I can even see the steps to take before me.
Please don't think your suggestion was in vane, cause I see other use for it in forthcoming situations. Not always do you want symetric waves on a water surface. Your method will come to good use.

Well, that's one thing I don't feel comfortable with in the Functions. The lack of exact control ... Too much random for my taste, but... well... you know.

No - or yes, but it's a very old version of it. Actually it's 3-something ... I doubt the plug works for that version (or that the version works with my recent OP), but some things are compatible with Photoshop (and vice versa). Don't know about third-party thingies, but could be worth a try perhaps.
Anyways, it looks like a cool utility !

No doubt I'll eventually merge with new Q's as the endevours proceeds.
