Hi, I wonder if anyone can advise me on the best path to go down. I have a pIII 1ghz cup with 64mb graphics card,1gig of sdram 133hz, using WinXP Pro. My question is...what would I need to upgrade to get in order to get the fastet resonse. ie upgrade to 3ghz P4 - or upgrade the graohics card to an ATI (128mb) or something along that line. I also use Brye 5 & Vue4 so would like to new the best option for all 3 products. Its mainly to moveing around before rendering -but also so render times. I am also in to animating. Could anyone please point me in the right direction Many thanks, Bushy

I couldn't tell you where, but I saw what looked like a fairly comprehensive thread on optimizing XPP for graphic -arts work - google around before you lay the plastic down...

I just got a Pentium4 with 3 Ghz with 1 gig RAM. An ATI All-in-Wonder Graghics card. Go for it. You willl be happy. For instance on my other P4 1.8 Ghz and 550RAM a render will take 1:39 compared to 26 seconds on this new one.

Rendering speed is purely based on CPU speed.

CPU speed and lots of RAM. I'd say Bang for Buck you get a better deal with AMD, but if cost is no problem, 800M FSB P4 can give better performance. For future proofing think AMD 64 bit, still quick at 32bit. but windoze won't be 64 bit for a while, when it is these CPUs will rule.
