Subject: Heeeelp for the new tutorial - searching for images ...

Schlabber ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2004 at 9:13 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 10:37 AM

This is not an easy post for me - I hope I can make understand what I wanted to do ... I hope you heard about the next tutorial I'm writing at the moment (it's a big big tutorial - it'll take many months until it's finished). It is about "expression". Expression in many ways - the facial expression, the posing expression and (that's the point why I'm writing here now) the expression of an image. For this big project I need examples of various kind. Good examples and bad examples. I have to explain why an image is good or bad. What could have done better. Why something in an image is good. Therefore I need the accreditaion to use YOUR images in my tutorial. One thing before: I will critisize no matter what name you are. If I find an error (or the team - I am not be the only one who will look at these images - and some of them are not related to digital art in any way) I will bring that to the point. This criticism will be of course proofed and it'll be contructive. This is something I can promise - you won't hear something like "this image is shit" nor "this image is awesome". I've various reasons why I'm asking for this - one is that I think we're stepping not forward as much as we used to do in the past. Another is - I need evidences and examples for things I'm explaining in this tutorial and I can't do an image for each point (then this would take ages). Of course you'll be mentioned as the artist you are (as I allready did in my first tutorial). Except - this time needn't to be a pose of mine inside that image. What images do I need ? Oh - that's hard to say, I just have to look at many images and see if I can use it or not. This is a turning point of that tutorial. If I don't find enough examples I'm a bit doomed. What is the advantage for YOU. Well, you can present your art in a very different way than the galleries and I CAN promise that this tutorial will be read (it's also for free - also I'm expecting 2-3 hundred sites in the end). You will have a total different point of view at your art. There won't be a comment like awesome - if there stands "awesome" under that image I'll say why it is awesome (but honestly - I don't think any image will get such a comment). But you should be aware that I don't want you to say "No, you can't write that because it is bad for my image or name" - if you agree - there's no way back (well, I know that's a hard decission - you have to trust me a little bit) Of course I can't promise that I'll use your image - it depends on too many things. Oh - one thing left ... it needn't necessarily be a poser-image. You can crosspost this message everywhere - I really want to have as many choice as possible. So ... now it's up to you. I'm counting on YOU. If you want me to let me use your images please post a link here (or say - just use my gallery-images) or write a mail (schlabber@schlabber.org). Schlabber (Stephan Schoeneberg) a note for the admins: I'll crosspost this in the Poser, Vue and Bryce forum - I hope I'm doing right - but so I can reach as many artists as possible

I'm perfectly happy for this post to stay in the Poser forum. If any of the images in my gallery are what you are looking for (although I doubt they will be suitable) you are most welcome to use them and critique them as you see fit. Good luck with finding images :-) Shoshanna.

Ah, feel free to use any of my gallery images for bad examples.. LOL!! And any at poserpros, renderosity, or rdna as well.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2004 at 9:36 PM

Without actually extending the invitation to individual artists, I'd like to add the Schlabber is looking for artists of various skill levels - not just the masters, although hopefully some of them will have the artistic fortitude step up to the plate. Personally, I'll be impressed and have much respect for any- and everyone who submits their images or galleries for inclusion in Schlabber's tutorial. It will be a two-way street, too - the critique panel will 'learn' how to give a constructive critique as much as the participating artists and those who will read the tutorial will learn how to 'receive' one. It's not about who's popular or who's infamous, it's about participating fully for the furtherment of our art skills, creations, and enjoyment. I highly encourage many people to join in.

I've only got a couple of images containing figures in my gallery, but you are very welcome to use them if you like. I've always admired your posing work and it would be an honour to contribute to this tutorial. Also a critique coming from you would be hard to refuse, and in fact, most welcome. 8) Catlin

Hi Stephan..I'm always open for some good(or bad) honest critique, expressions in 3d figures is something I've always struggled with, for the most part I dont even bother touching the face dials in Poser, most of my renders that use a figure will be the default V3 with no morphs and usually colored in photoshop. Looking forward to another Schlabber tut :) Cheers -Stefan

Mine too, use them if there's anything useable. Some of mine surely can be used as bad examples L and I'd love some honest critique.

I've been using your poses as a starting point for most of my work ever since I began. I would be honored if you would consider using any of my work! Even if only to illustrate how NOT to create expressions!

und vas ihr sagen..;) My last post (the Spring Break one), is one of smug self-satisfaction (haven't found a way to import an eye texture for Maya Doll into Bryce..yeah, Bryce, so I just closed her eyes..;) It's in my gallery, you have my permission to use it. I'll be in the 'skills-challenged' section. And I don't think you could say anything worse than what I've already said..me own worst critic..;)

You can use mine and try to figure out which of your poses were used in the illustrations. A couple have only minor tweaks, but many, such as the SWAT officer, only retained a small amount of the original pose (the SWAT officer's holding of the gun is about the only recognizable thing kept).

So really i'm honest ...take all my pictures for your tut! I need to learn and people are afraid to criticize us, would be by awkwardness or I do not know! I cannot allow myself to make good criticism because I have been a beginner and this for approximately 2 years. It is necessary to learn as one should not very through!

compiler ( ) posted Tue, 13 April 2004 at 4:02 PM

I don't have many pictures in the Gallery, but you are most welcome to use them all and comment/critique them all. Everything that can help me getting better is a pleasure, and if it comes from you it is an honour as well. Best wishes for your tutorial.
