Subject: is there a chance to use poser without DAZ figures?

mystick_xray ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 1:55 PM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 12:24 AM

after buying poser 5, i have to buy now this !daz figures? all your works are combinied with this... v3 means victoria 3?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 1:57 PM

Poser comes with figures you can use. Daz sells add-on figures most people use. Yes V3 is Victoria 3.0 at www.daz3d.com in the Premier Store.

yes the figures from poser noone use :/ only v3 m2 ...

Triarius ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 2:07 PM

Actually, a lot of people use the "native" P5 figuresfor some things, they are as good or better than V3, M3, and SP. Since you seem new to the program, I suggest you learn using the native figures, then move on to the DAZ stuff when you feel comfortable with the app, or as you find a need. There is a tendency in our technological society to feel that only the best or latest will dodon't subscribe to that fallacy, at least not unless you are made of money!

Berserga, "De gustibus non est disputandem." ;D The only tool you can afford is the best tool you can find. BUT Art comes not from the tools, but the artist.

Berserga ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 2:38 PM

True true :D I guess it was the "better" part I took isue with. I've used Judy, and if you are willing to put the time into her she'll get the job done, but there is a serious quality gap between Judy and even Vicky 2. Make do with what you have and can afford! It's the artist that matters!

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 3:06 PM

You don't have to buy the Daz figures, but they're excellent for most purposes, and it's difficult to join the ranks of the legions of "NVITWS" renderers without at least buying Vickie.

diolma ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 3:18 PM

Yeah! "NJITWS" -- doesn't quite have the same ring to it:-)) Ahem! More seriously mystick_xray, I would advise you NOT to buy any other figures until you have famiarised youself with at least the basic Poser essentials (like posing, the materials room, the face room, using dynamic clothing etc). Also make sure you know how to set up lighting, camera angles et al. You can make good images with just Judy and Don, but you havwe to get to know Poser in order to do it. Perseverence pays dividends! THEN go and buy the figures you need for the scene you have in mind. If you are short on cash, then get V2 1st. There's loads of free stuff for her (and incidentally, textures for V2 will usually work on Judy too). Just my 2-pennyworth.. Good luck, Diolma

Before you buy anything, go to the Freestuff here and browse around. You'll find thousands of free characters and figures, props and objects. You can have years of fun in poser without every spending a cent. And I sell through DAZ, so you can take this as being unbiased advice. mac

Victoria 3 is a big file and is quite slow to load and difficult to use on my computer so I don`t use it much. I use poser 4 figures regularly and quite a few free figures as well as they are not so huge. You could try getting victoria 2, it is not as big a file as v3 but it is still quite high resolution. This might not be popular but I think that victoria 3 has been a bit overused in renders recently.

A_ ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 4:55 PM

you can make wonderful images using only Poser figures (not including the Daz ones). If you want, I'd be more than happy to direct you to many images using the P4 people (mine and others!) :)

GladysClump ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 5:00 PM

I agree with diolma, You don't need to buy any DAZ figures, the Poser 5 figures work great and are very versitile. It's just a matter of taking the time to learn how they work.

Caly ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 5:30 PM

The Poser 4 people were created by Zygote... which spun off Daz. If I remember correctly, weren't parts of the Poser 5 content based on the Poser 4 content? So even if you use the Poser 5 stuff only, you're indirectly using Daz stuff. :) It really depends on the kinds of pictures you want to do. Portraits, close-ups- V3 really is the best. If you're going to seriously bend the figure, do tough positions, again, V3 is the smoothest for that. However, for background population type images, any of the other figures can fill out a scene. You really don't want to load up 50 V3s in one file unless you have a super computer. :)

The only figures iv bought, are things that are very diverse from the normal people.. Freak, Sara, Neftoon gal, Koshini, K2, and others. Plus, you'll find lots of goodies beyond people at Daz, Renderosity, Poser Pros, ect. Daz's Millenium Dragon is one of the best figures I've bought, and he was released quite some time ago.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Lets see, you just bought poser....... That means you will be addicted within the month and spending all of your loose pennies on the now insidiously growing addiction to which you have fallen prey to. Use poser without daz stuff...... sure for a while, till the addiction sets in, and then theyve got you....... No addicts were harmed in the production of this note.... :D

Warmest Regards,

Dallas

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 7:21 PM

For the type of realism a lot of us are drawn to...yes you may have to buy DAZ figures. However, if you choose to wait there is a female figure being released by Neftis which may be on par with Vicki. I don't know if she plans to do a male.

Grace37 ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 11:03 PM

THis was a BIG DUH question to ask consedering where you posted it (one of the LARGEST collections of free stuff includeing NON daz figure specific items on the net) @_@

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 2:46 AM

Hey! That pic you made is GREAT! Really! I wouldn't have thought you'd only got Poser for a month :o) Be aware though that the pic most likely would be against the TOS here, if you posted it in the galleries, as she appears to be uhm.. touching herself. But I like it! Nicely done and great lightning, whether it's Poser or Photoshop :o) Oh and as many have said, there are LOADS of free stuff here, not just for the Daz characters. There is a LOT free stuff for the Poser 4 Nude Woman (Posette) around, and she's also included in Poser 5. Not much for the Poser 5 people though, but it's there too, and as it was said, Judy uses V2 textures (And Don uses Mike 2 textures too) so that alone will give you lots of new "characters"

There is also the fact that a growing number of users only have P5...so the demand for items for the P5 kiddies is finally on the rise....

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 9:55 AM

if you keep your eyes open (or look for back issues of Digit, 3d World, Computer Art), you can get lo-res (that's res, not rent, ya..;) Mike or Vickie..they can be useful. In fact, Dina's going to be in the May Compter Art mag..so that's another source.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit
