Subject: Is it possible to create mist, fog, and smoke effects in Poser? If so then how?

Terminvs_Est ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 5:20 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:22 AM

I've been making a character rendering with poser lately and I thought that it would be cool to use some kind of mist or fog effect around my character. But if that's possible then how can I create mist that can be used in Poser?

P4 or 5? P5 has atmospherics which do the job very nicely even though they take a millennium to render. P4 doesn't support them so you'd have to fake it with transparencies or postwork. There are some fog props in Freestuff which work very nicely in P4.

Create a transparency map 1024 x 1024 in whatever paint package you use. Use the same image as a texture and apply them to the poser One Sided Square. Position it where you want, and you have instant fog. I've used the one from the Dark Mercies stage pack by cmdctrlesc in a few of my gallery images. Check this one out for example.

Nerd has a fog prop, and the DAZ AtmoSphere is also useful

I use a package from the Marketplace by pHil Rittenhouse, called Atmosphere. There's also a simple fog prop by Coelus in the Free Downloads, and one by Trekkie Girl I believe. You can get very convincing fog effects using these various plane. If you follow the link, you'll see an example of pure Poser Special Effects fog. In this image, I used the curved plane behind her and the flat plan at knee height and tilted at an angle so that the two planes intersected. One good hint to remember, click on the plane for it's properties and turn off cast shadows, that seemed to me to produce a more realistic effect. Following SamTherapy's advice, you can produce Fire effects and lens flares as well. I've created a Fire Effect to use sometime. Liz Pope

Thanks guys! Looks like I'm pretty much finished with my little character project shown here. ;-)

You can also use the AtmoSphere from Anton's Aquatica Reef at DAZ, which gives you depth-dependent hazing.

I already got a couple fog props in Free Stuff. So what do you think of the pic I made and posted in the 7th post of this thread?

Term, this Forum is ah..... policically correct. Whch means that big boobs generally get met with compact silence or remarks about silicone. Silly isn't it? NVIATWS (which is 'Naked Vicki In A Temple With Sword') is not considered polically correct either... I like her face and her boobs, and the nice way the oufit sits on her. Hair... needs work. Those locks up in the air look angular, not like flowing hair. Horns not really convincing. Sword holding pose looks a bit awkward, like her hand is not taking the weight so to speak. Left hand looks odd, needs a new hand pose. Effects are cool (or hot I guess lol) and background is great. Well you wanted an opinion :o9 :] Fish
