THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: obp newbie question- help

SFRealm ( ) posted Sun, 18 April 2004 at 6:06 PM ยท edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 9:43 PM

How do I export obp files to obj files? If no export is their an obp to obj converter? TIA

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 18 April 2004 at 7:09 PM

You can't unless the original model was an obj, and no, no converter that I know of, since obps are native to Bryce only....maybe someone else might know of one?

Read the Bryce Forum FAQ link at the top of the page above the banner box. The 3rd FAQ down tells what you can import The fourth FAQ tells how to export and what keystrokes to hit. You can not export the basic bryce shapes you see on the top of the bryce desktop. You can't export any of the Bryce objects from the first create menu. If you create an object by boleans like using an imported cube to cut a window into another imported cube then export you wind up with two cubes. Bryce won't export the hole.

You can however import a cube and resize it X,Y,Z object space or rotate it and rescale worldspace to stretch opposite corners. When you export these files they keep the deformations. You can also use multi replicate to turn one imported leaf into a set of random leaves and export the whole lot. Pretty good for a little program that doesn't even have a modeler built in.

Thanks electrograph- can export everything except boolean objects. Just a note a tut at Brycetech said to export terrain go to edit terrain and use ctrl D even though it's for Bryce4 it works for exporting terrains in Bryce5

Yea Bryce5 is a very good program imo

You could also import primative shapes in obj or 3ds formats, create whatever you want to create using them, excepting of course the boolean operations, and export them out of Bryce. I think you would also need a modelling program to import it into so as to weld the pieces together, but you can get the Wings 3D, which is a free download, if you don't already have a modelling program. Hope this helps a little. 8) Catlin
