THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: A question or two for Bryce 3....

Hi all. I have two things I need to find out about, and hopefully you all can help me. First, I have a scene using both Poser 3, and Bryce 3 (I'm too poor to upgrade ATM). I have a ridge/bump I need this man to step on and over, but I don't have the CPU or the time to go back and forth between the two programs for each small modification. Is there some way using Bryce 3 to export a landscape object to Poser? (I know Bryce 4 can...might just have to upgrade) Second question...Can someone aid me with the texture editor? I am unable to create a few of the textures I am currently looking for. Any pointers to turtorials would be nice. Thanks all! Taran

There are still many of us using Bryce3/Poser3. You're not in the dark ages, here. Unfortunately, Bryce 3d does not have an export feature. And, Bryce 4's export is limited to terrains, which would work for you in this case, but is rather limited in that it can't export boolean meshes. If you're not ready to upgrade to Bryce 3d, there may be some freeware/shareware alternatives. I know I've seen a shareware terrain generator before, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. Also, I don't know for sure if the one I'm thinking of had an export function. Try searching the net for these alternatives. As for the texture editor... I assume you're speaking of the Bryce texture editor? What, exactly, are you trying to do? The Deep Texture Editor is somewhat like playing with fractals... it takes a lot of trial and error. You can achieve wonderful results, but not always the results you want. The other option is to map a texture on your object, the way you do in Poser. The process is much more difficult to describe than to achieve. There are some good Bryce tutorials at www.petersharpe.com. Hope this helps. -ScottK

Terragen is the name of the shareware landscape builder, I believe. As I recall, it could export in DXF. I'm not sure where the site is. One thing you could do is make the object in Bryce, render an image of it, and load the image as a background picture into poser while you adjust the pose. That would enable you to make sure the figure's feet clear the bump and land in the right places. Then you could drag the figure into Bryce with a multi-frame OBJ export.

The download for terragen can be found at http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~mpf103/terragen/tg_install.html Lobo
