Ok, I know after starting that long heated debate about no postworking I am opening myself up for a load of abuse here with this but here goes anyway. I have just posted this to the Vue Gallery. The image was a Poser figure imported into Vue and rendered entirely within Vue. I was trying to achieve some interesting lighting effects from within Vue and trying to see how realistic I could make the skin. Most of the credit should go to the suppliers of the props and textures (credits given in the gallery posting). hopefully this image is acceptable as a piece of art even though there wasn't any 2d work done on it at all ;-) p.s. thanks for all the responses to my original thread about postwork, it all made for facinating reading. Cheers and apologies if I stepped on anyones toes with any of my responses! Cheers Stealth1701

Stealth - first let me say I did drop in the Poser thread and I think a lot of them didn't get what you were trying to ask/say. Makes me wonder if maybe the galleries shouldn't be broken up by genre instead of app. I will say that this is a nice piece, and yes, it's acceptable. My question is, if someone did something similar and say the post worked in some mist or fog, would that be acceptable to you in the Vue Gallery? IMHO, that's fine. However, if they just say, created Vicki in poser, imported her into vue for some lighting and then painted the background/hair/clothing, etc in post, then I would think the appropriate gallery would be mixed media. However, minimal post such as touch ups and some effects is okay for the Vue gallery. But this is all opinion, and we each have one. :-) On a side note, I lived in Framingham, MA for a while. My zip code as 01701. Somehow, I thought you might appreciate that. :-)

Hi elektra Yes I would totally agree with you on the matter of small touchups. In fact, ehen I was rendering this image initially there was a small artefact appeared on the elbow and it would have been much easier to just touch that up than reposition the arm. However, since I started this postwork thread I figured I would be called a heratic for doing that! I think you see what I'm getting at and I'm grateful for that - I'm all for postworked art, I just think if we are going to categorize by tool we need to limit it to the capabilities of the tool. An oil-painting artist does not name the make of brush he uses as its his work thats on show not the tool. But if other artists wanted to see which brush would be better to use (all other things being equal) then it would be better to show the various paintings categorized by brush. 3D artwork is a learing experience where we improve the quality (and time to produce) our work by learning to use the tool better. If there is no demarkation between what is produced by the tool and what is produced using postwork, how will we ever know whats possible for ourselves. Anyway, thanks for youiu comments and yes I do appreciate your zip code ;-)

Cool! I'm glad we feel like we understand each other. Whether or not we agree, IMHO, is not the thing, it's that we try to understand. BTW - have you thought of turning the above image into a print and putting it up on Ebay? Might fetch a few $$$ and it is nice work.

thanks for your suggestion elektra but I doubt its at teh standard where anyone will buy it. It only got 5 commenst posted in the gallery so it probably doesn't appeal to the masses :-( Anyway, I'm glad you like it :-)

It may not appeal to the masses, but if you sell it in one of the Trek categories on Ebay, you might find someone wants it. As for the lack of comments, that could be because you're not showing any boobs. ;-)

Hmm, maybe I should have been a bit less meticulous in the dynamic clothing room. Its all too easy to make a mistake in there and have those boobs suddenly appear outside the dress!
