I copy a bunch of times for that reason too. I hate it when you loose a good one. :)

Sometimes when you page back the info isn't there and has gone missing. At least that has happened to me.

One thing that causes this is that the session expires while you are writing a long message. A symptom of that is going back to the main forum pages when you hit Submit. If that happens, usually the Back button will save you. But if you go back, you still have to Select All/Copy, then refresh. If you refresh first, your message will go away. If I feel long-winded (who, me?), I write in TextPad, then paste to the Body. M
I typically type up my responses in a wp and hit f5 to refresh the forum. This way i can see if anyone has responded while i was typing.

I just do a quick ctrl-a and then ctrl-c before I post. That way if the glorious software that runs these forums decides to eat my post, it's on the clipboard and I can just go back and ctr-v and voila, post restored. bonni

"I've discovered a useful security measure - before posting, just select your entire message and hit Ctrl-C (or whatever the mac equivalent is)." The Mac equivalent of Ctrl-c is Command c and the idea of copying the message first before hitting the post button does work, used it a few times myself :-)
Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

I've seen a number of posts in THIS forum (see? this is a post about THIS forum, that is, the POSER forum, not some other forum, so don't move this thread) complaining about how just when you have spent 30 minutes typing a long response in some thread, when you hit the "post" button, the message gest lost and your time is wasted. It happens to me too occasionally; I suspect it's what happens if two people try to post simultaneously. I've discovered a useful security measure - before posting, just select your entire message and hit Ctrl-C (or whatever the mac equivalent is). Then if the forum software eats your message, you can just paste it back into the browser window.
