Subject: vue 4 grainy animations how do you stop this ???

iv'e noticed one small flaw in vue and mover 5 which is heart breaking on a rather great package. when doing animations ive noticed that the render is extremly grainy ive tried rendering on all the options and setting advanced stuff to best quality possible however the graineness is still there and when i have a scene with lots of grass or weeds or brush it shows worse. how can i take care of this ?

Post a screen shot - this is usually your anti-aliasing settings - often times complicated by a complex material. Bot

i jstu ran a render did it small so youll have to peer at it a little and only did 4 frames. if you run it on loop youll notice that near teh brush its very grainy which i guess isnt all that bad but what kills it is the grain sifts from frame to frame. again i had antialias on superior and advance optioned it to teh best it could do. http://www.dgpdev.com/001.avi

Did you try broadcast? Make sure you're using motin blur also. Bot

Its most likely NOT a problem of render settings, but Codec settings... Watch the codec and quality you choose!

i get the same exact results using uncompressed full frame.

Ive taken a look at the avi you posted, but its so small and short, I can hardly see anything... Have you checked fog/haze settings? How does single rendered frames look, when you do not render it as animation, but a single image? Is it still grainy then?

single renderings looks good. i would post a full frame sample at a slightly bigger resolution however juts 5 frames is over 7 megs. at teh next resolution option above that sample. however if you notice at the bottom wehre the brush is it seems to flicker and move. on a bigger resolution its even worse. i will run a bigger res and convert it to wmv with the biggest settings i dotn think that would add any more pixelization to it. if it does i guess ill just zip up a full frame one to post..

Did you check the flicker reduction filter? If nothing works, then Id render single bmp files of the animation and make the avi with an external tool, so you got more control...

You have to upgrade to stop bad blurs. Its called marketing. Windows Professional and now Vue4 Professional when will it end. I heard someone say they want a poser 6 professional! Ahh..

Actually, you can resolve this issue in good old Vue 4.1.2. You don't have to upgrade to VuePro. For me the best solution was to render to image files, as haegerst suggested.

Oh, yeah I must admit I use Vue 4.2 and I always render every single frame as a "normal" .bmp - probably just a bad habit from "Animatek Worldbuilder" times, I just like to have more control about the output...

Don't use Vue to render animations, instead render out the sequence as frames. Then use a proper video package to collate the images into an animation.

i found out it has to do something with there plants or what not. as i removed teh vegitation and brush weeds from teh scene and it now renders good again. im not sure why there vegetation stuff would make it render awful btu ive sent them a email and hopefully they can get teh 2 to work nice together. however tis not that big a deal to not have brush or weeds in my scenes ;)

I think you get flickering because the details in the plants are so small. That's a common problem with all the rendering packages. One solution could be to render a twice the size and then resample the pictures to the final size. Of course, that will have a rough impact on render times, bt if quality is what you're looking for, there may be no other solution...

Maybe more subpixel division could also help...

I had the exact same problem, and the solution in my case had nothing to do with Vues rendering. It was the player itself. Real One and QuickTime. The funny thing was, that I had rendered out this animation once before but my computer had to be reformatted as I was attacked, and I did not back up the original rendered animation. But when I played back the re-rendered animation, it was so bad that I thought I had rendered it out at a stupidly small scale, and in preview mode, and the player had scaled the size up. (But it hadnt, and I had not made a mistake). The problem was in the player settings for movie playback. I had rendered out an animation on broadcast and watched the frames as they were rendered. They were all perfect until it came to playing them back. I then tried it using QuickTime... Same Problem. I then went to the player settings and saw that when I had re-installed the players, I had left the internet playback at the default settings...I think it was 56k. I reset the players to 2MB/LAN and BINGO... No More problem. The renders were perfect (But I did have to re-render the animation again). Setting the players did not fix the problem of the renders I had already done. (I think it had something to do with the compression the player used to save the animation. Oh, and it still looked bad when I tried full uncompressed frames as well. It only worked fine when I bumped up the playback settings on the actual players. Check the settings of your players. If they are at maximum (2MB/LAN), then this is not the same problem I was having. I really hope this helps you:)
