Noir artpacks; If I haven't mentioned this site before, shame on me. This site accepts artwork of all kinds and releases the "best of" every other month. They have a amazing collection of art, available in "packs". There is also an archive to dig through. Great, great stuff there! http://www.noir.org/Releases.html ----- Blur Studios has made available their 3D film short "Rockfish". It's an awesome animation filled with dirt, dust and heavy metal! Good action. You will need quicktime. It's 8.5 minutes long, 480x360, and 60Mb big. If your modem can swing it, it's a very worthy download! http://www.blur.com/html_quicktime/rockfish_480.html ----- "A Commercial/corporate video for a futuristic robot policing the chaotic streets of a developing nation." This is a 3D animated "Appleseed" type of robot which has been inserted into live footage. AMAZING, imho! 480x360, 16.7Mb, 1.5 minutes. You have to see this. http://www.theembassyvfx.com/tetra_w_movie.html ----- "3D Model to 3D paper model" - A (retail) software program that will print out your 3D model (that you create in THEIR program) so you can cut it up and glue it together into a paper model. They have user galleries (photo's of paper models) Pretty cool. http://www.e-cardmodel.com/pepakura-en/ ----- Very Impressive REAL TIME 3D Engine Demo Video, showcasing the yet to be released Unreal 3 Engine!!! http://download.beyondunreal.com/get.php/1/demos/unreal3_0002.wmv ----- Reference pictures - "deteriorated objects". Can't really be used for textures, but make for excellent reference! http://www.redpixel.com.br/mrdetails.asp?ref=m018 ----- View the THOUSANDS of entries from the Ballistic Book's "contests". All the entries from ExposII, d'Artiste, Elemental, and VESAGE books, thousands of 2D/3D pics! The viewable pics are small, but I found the artists I really liked were easily located with a search engine, no problem. Worth bookmarking. http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/bsw/viewEntries.php ---- That's my newest/most favorite links right now! ;oD AgentSmith

Thanks AS! I watched "Rockfish" twice in a row and I really enjoyed it. One of the best things(and there are many)is when he nonchalantly opens up his tackle box and selects just the right lure! It's too bad about Rochr's visa probs 'cause he would definitely fit in with this studio. I enjoyed the futuristic robot video too. Thank goodness for cable modems! I am going to savor the other sites for later, but I've marked 'em. Thanks again.

The paper model one is kewl, another forum I go to had a compo with the idea of giving the model a paintjob in pshop, then printing and constructing the model, finally fudging the model into a background picture! Phew that sounded like hard work :)

I've put my list back up in 3d links forum (about 1,600 links) .There's a Bryce section (one for resources, one for mats, and one for tutorials) plus a bunch of others..so if you're interested, just download the text file and rename it to .htm, then launch in your favorite browser.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Wohoo, I want to use the Unreal 3D engine for my Bryce renderings :-) - how can they do it in realtime?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 28 April 2004 at 6:07 PM

With the newest Nvidia card, the GeForce 6800. They said somewhere in that video it was the only card so far to give then decent frame rates. AS

Anyway you look at it if you can get your hands on a game editor that has been released in the last 2 years you will be able to use the real time engine for awesome Video's and for Still shots if you want to too but the Screen resolution is pretty much limited right now...Always remember that in a game Engine in order to work right it goes like this...LOW POLY Meshes and High Resolution Textures for the most realistic scene's...

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 28 April 2004 at 9:49 PM

Yeah, the standard with the beautiful Unreal Tournament games are lower poly meshes and textures that are mostly 1024x1024. AS

Cool links AS....

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who know binary, and those who don't.

This is a direct link to the movie file(instead of an html page), I'm not sure if it will work any better or not. http://www.blur.com/quicktime/480x360/rockfish_480.mov AS

Attileus, video games don't use ray-tracing, and won't for a few years until we hit THz machines (Tera-Hertz, or 1,000 GHz). Thus, you won't be able to render anything with it the way you would in Bryce. One thing to keep in mind, though, as technology advances, eventually ALL of our .br4 and .br5 scenes will end up being realtime scenes. That should be fun! The Unreal engine is by far the most advanced of any realtime 3D designs, though, and I'm happy to say I've played all of them and love them to death!
