I work for a planetarium and I'm using Carrara 3 as our 3d program. My question is does anybody have any good ideas on modelling a good sun for animation (sun flares, prominence or the look of a boiling sun) also I need tuts on modelling galaxies for fly trough animations and an other good helpful effects I could use for planetarium programs.

Just by chance I have seen this post... hoping that you are a Mac user and not PC since, ArtMaticPro, can do that real well. Just render an animation from, ArtMaticPro, stars, planets and all and then utilize that as a background for your scene. A few of the special presets that are included along with, ArtMaticPro, are predictable to manipulate and everything and look perfect. Hope that helps you.

Gad..there's a lot of star programs out there that you could make a background from.. Universe (diard software), starbits, Celestia..maybe they can help..not sure about the *accuracy*..but they're handy at times.
