Subject: Need Help with THUMBNAILS

TIMMYLYNN ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2004 at 9:02 PM · edited Tue, 25 February 2025 at 2:16 PM

Hi, I can make a thumbnail but do not know how to put only part of my image in the thumbnail as most people seem to be doing. I would really like to know how to do this. Can anyone point me to a good tut on making a thumbnail of only a portion of the image. I am using Photoshop 7. Thanks, TIMMYLYNN

Render the image you want as either a tif or Psd. In Photoshop create a new file, with a transparent background, 91 pixels wide & 91 pixels high (NOTE: In ProPack you could make the pixel height higher - good for full length figures etc. I'm not sure about P4 or P5[haven't tried it]). Open the Render and go to the channels palette and CTRL click the alpha channel (this will select the object and NOT the background). Copy and paste this into your NEW file, arrange/transform until you have it as you want it, then simply 'Save for web' as PNG 24(with transparency checked! The PNG has to have the exact same name as the related CR2, PP2 etc - except for the file extension - that it is related to.

Are you making a thumbnail for a gallery image or for use within Poser? Lord_Lucan's advice is good for making the figure you see in the Libraries palette (otherwise you'd see lots of shrugging guys). If you are uploading an image to the galleries, you can use the rectangular marquee tool in Photoshop to select a small section of your image. Copy and paste that selection into a new window. (cont-c, cont-n, cont-v.... substitute the command key if you are using a Mac) Resize if necessary. "Save for web" trying to get the thumbnail to within 15kb (I think that is the limit here... each website and contest has a different limit). Remember that a thumbnail doesn't have to show everything, but if your full image shows nudity the thumbnail should not and you will need to click on the nudity button. Carolly

file_108531.jpg

another option for making thumbnails for P5 libraries (and PPP i belive)

set your document window to 91 pixels wide by however hight you want it. insert your item, adjust cameras, lights etc. Render. file>export>Image.... save it as a png in your appropriate runtime.

no other program needed.

when i make thumbnails for my gallery picts, i just copy a bit out and save it as a diffrent file.
