This is a software product that is nearly ready for release. Essentially, it is a tool for animators who render to individual frames for the eventual delivery to film or video. This tool allows you to view the frames flicker-free and at your chosen frame-rate as if the frames had been rendered straight to a movie format.

I do not yet know if the Marketplace here is appropriate for it's sell. Are we mostly still image producers here, or do we have a large number of animators in our community? I would be interested in your feedback. BTW, there will be a Lite and Pro version released.

Also, do you know of any competition for such a product?

Thanks,
HL

Well, VirtualDub (a freeware video editor) can load .bmp or .tga image sequences and then play them at a specified framerate in a window. It also lets you load soundtracks in .wav format, apply filters to the video, and then save the finished animation to .avi format. A very useful tool for animators on a budget.

However, it doesn't readily read .png, .jpg, or other popular image formats, can't play stuff fullscreen, and you can't set the playback to loop. And it's Windows-only. No Mac version.

What sort of features will the Lite and Pro versions of Frame Monkey have?

How cool. best of luck with it. It looks really slick.

Presently, the Lite (free) version is slated to have all the features of the standard version with a limited number of loadable frames. It does support full screen and all image formats. The Pro version will add sound support and other features as well. Little Dragon, what do you mean by "apply filters to the video"? Thanks everyone for the feedback. It is much appreciated! HL

Little Dragon, what do you mean by "apply filters to the video"?

Applying different effects to the video, much like the plugins in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Noise, gaussian blur, text, gamma adjustment, colour-correction, sketch-style filters, fades and other transitions, etc. These things are often easier to add in post than during render-time.

Gotcha. Today, I do those things using Actions in Photoshop. I save the set of filters that I apply to one frame, then apply same to the whole batch, but it sounds like a good idea though. Generally, I don't want to be dubbed as a video editor or creator in any fashion. I want to keep my target audience, which is animator's who want to show video to clients without rendering to AVI, etc. All additions, possibly including your filter idea, will be added as plugins for the product. That way, an animator can choose what fits his needs. Although the sound support is delivered with the Pro version, in reality it is a plugin that is installed with the product. Thanks again for the info, HL

Looks like a nice product. Please keep us informed of where you eventually find a home for it.

Will do, Petunia. Thanks. I have setup a website for the product (or at least I am in the process). You can find it at polkadotmonkey.com Thanks again, HL
