Subject: Probably a real newbie question

Can someone help me with this? I have a small picture, but I want to tile it so I can use it in a texture map. I have Photoshop 5.5 and 6.0 Can this be done? If you don't feel like explaining it out (if it can be done) can you maybe point me to a page in either manual? I also have Painter 6.3 so if I can be done in that program maybe you could point me to that page in the manual. This is making me crazy, but I know that it must be possible. Thanks in advance, Marque

In Painter 6, you want to make a pattern. That starts on page 137. It is fairly easy to do. It also explains how to make it a seamless tile.

I know about that, even how to weave. What I need to do is make a small pattern tile fill a larger area without distorting it. I can do it in html, but not in Photoshop or Painter. So if I have a small seamless tile say 120X120 and I want to fill an area of say 800X600 how would I do that? With a tile I've already made? Thanks, Marque

Go ahead and do it in html. Then do a screen capture and paste it into photoshop. Then crop it to what you want.

Tried it...didn't work. First it saved a picture that was only a little larger than the original texture, then I tried saving a copy from the website and got the same size. I'll just keep reading and hope that someone reads this who has done what I'm talking about. Thanks for the help, Marque

I'll try to help. If I understand correctly, you have a image that you like to insert into a larger file and have it tiled. To do this, take your image that is to be tiled, select all and then go to: edit/ define pattern. Then switch to your larger file that you wish to tile into, and choose: edit/fill and use pattern from your choices. That should work. Spanfarkle : )>

You rock! That's exactly what I was trying to do!!! Thanks, Marque =)

I guess that I assumed that you knew how to use a pattern to fill an image. Sorry for not explaining a bit further, as Spanfarkle has done.
