Well there's a nice scabbleword (tripple word value).

Anyhow, this weekend there was a concert by a band called "Van Dik Hout" closeby, and I realised I've never tried to shoot anything like that, so got my D70 and my 70-300mm lens and shot around 50 pictures. I know it's not much, but I really got there too late (free concert in the town square type of thing). So here's some results:

#1 shot this from quite a distance to get the overview of the podium.

#2 This one is the best of the series IMHO (at least to the point of actually being sharp :))

#3 This one I like because of the facial expression

#4 Why is there always someone sitting on the fence :|

#5 play that funky music white boy....

#6 Autograph session. He saw the focuslight coming on and he posed liked this :)

When you walk around with a DSLR and a big lens on it people tend to ask you if you're with the band or work for the newspaper, hehe. I head that question around 5/6 times in the half hour I was there.

Anyone else have experience with concert photography? If so, any usefull tips for the next time this opportunity arises?

@3DGuy - > big lens on it people tend to ask you if you're with the > band or work for the newspaper That's funny Quite some time ago, I was at a crafts fair watching some Morris Dancing and carrying a medium format camera. A few of the dancers insisted that I was from the New York Times. MGD

Now we are talking my type of photography. This is how I spend most of my time behind the camera. And if I had a nickel for each time someone asked me if I was the bands photographer, Id be a rich man.

I shoot with a flash, if Im allowed, can get close enough, and Im not annoying the band. I almost always shoot close-ups, to keep my meter from taking in to much background. I keep a finger on the exposure compensation control, and Im quick to dial down. But most of all I keep and eye out for facial expressions, and The Moment shots. In the end, Concert photos are a serious challenge if you are not the bands official photographer.
