Sorry, this aint no tut - I cant muster anything that structured. Maybe therell still be something in here that might help somebody in some way Now, right off the bat Ive got to shout out props to Agent Smith, Blog, Dan Whiteside, Drac, Flak, MarioG, Ocddoug, Rochr, Roobol, and Woodhurst to name but a few - because whether they know it or not theyve been instrumental to the process, and it probably wouldnt have happened if I hadnt had the benefit of their images and information. Go look at their stuff, read their forum posts and replies, find their sites, and pour over their tutorials. If thats all you get out of this then itd be enough but Ill try to add some additional value anyway. 8) I realize this is pretty lightweight - if theres something you want to know that I didnt cover, just ask.

The Sky Well the mega primitives werent working, LightWave particle emitters and hypervoxels were interesting but not that interesting, and I didnt get around to trying to simulate particle effects by clipping the tips off terrains, so yes the sky incorporates picture textures of tornadoes in two separate locations in addition to the Bryce sky. Pic selection and matching is pretty crucial, as is approaching it from the standpoint of integration as opposed to just tossing something up as a backdrop. You can use symmetrical lattices instead of and in conjunction with the 2D planes, but the key is having them be reactive within the scene so that you can tie everything together with lighting and atmosphere instead of simply trying to drop pictures in. For this image I used haze and fog blended with sun at 100% color and luminescence, spherical clouds casting shadows, sun shadows on, soft shadows enabled, and no other lights other than the atmospherics and sun. I also made separate renders with the tornado in two different positions that I blended together in post. In reality you are going to use whatever works for what you are trying to achieve.

The Barn I ungrouped everything and did a little repetitive up, rotate, expand, over, on it moving between world, object and camera orientations.

Then I put the barn back in whole and deleted everything but the foundation. I picked and chose between the skewed and stable foundation elements and deleted the ones I didnt want.

Then I took individual pieces one at a time and kept repeating the process to fly them out a little further. Stuff ends up all out of alignment so I was left moving things around piece by piece.

You will undoubtedly have noticed the grey boxes - the dooways were booleaned into the original model and the ungrouping and movement made them effectively unrecoverable, so I had to move boards around to make the doorway again too which ends up being a tedious process with all the detailed pieces in a Meski model.

The Ground Has got a terrain, certainly not overwhelming quite subtle, but enough to sell it to your eye and help the transition to the sky and structures. Ive got the weeds textured the same as the terrain and placed throughout. Even where you cant see them they help break it up and make it feel better.

As I mentioned earlier I made multiple renders. I rendered with the tornado placed behind the barn and field...

...and with the tornado where I wanted it for composition. The composition render bisected the barn and also gave me the opportunity to shear off some of the barn and foundation.

The Post So at this point Ive got two primary renders and an additional plop of a doorway to integrate. Enter PSP. I mask the back of the barn in with the front of the barn (but not extending it out past where the front of the barn was), mask the doorway plop in, and the transition areas between the middle and background areas, going over them a little with a low density clone brush again after flattening and merging all the layers to make sure everythings smooth.

One quick bump to brightness/contrast and then into illumination effect for a little touch of very subtle lighting.

Just a hint of re-darkening and a little bit of a single light with the same orientation as the Bryce sun to strengthen it and make sure its all working together.

I have my res at 1400 so no problems. All very impressive. You gonna give us another tutorial on the twister itself? It's 3d, or 2d plane?

This was the inspiration and 'parent' pic. The image uses two 2D planes with the same pic in different locations. Symmetrical lattices of varying depth and transparency work in some instances too. Dan Whiteside, MarioG, and Roobol have some really nice tutorials available that I wouldn't presume to try to improve upon.
