Hi all, Can someone tell me a bit more about this package ? (1) Is it free ? (2) Do you need Sims 2 to use it ? (I don't have, but I have Sim City 4) (3) Can you import the Sims Body Shop characters into Poser (and vice-versa). thanks, Andrew

  1. Yes its Free 2. no you don't need sims 2 to use it. Sims 2 won't be out until Sept 17th. 3. No you can't import the Characters into Poser they come with a whole new file format. It's a fun program lots of ways to create characters. This is only a small version of what will come with Sims 2. It's a big download so if you are using dial up, it will take a while to download. Its free (there are 3 different starter packs) you don't need Sims 2 to use it (although thats what its for for making ur own custom sims and importing them) you cannot import or export and sim meshes at the moment Although when the game comes out you will be able to, and the program you will make ur new meshes in is Maya. YOu can export textures for everything that can be textures and create your own textures, alpha maps etc When you load up body shop and load your base sim, you can the way the face looks (loads of what we would call 'Morphs') you can't alter the meshes at the moment. Other things you can change are: Skin tone eyeliner eyeshadow eye colour eyebrows lipstick blusher clothing (textures) hair colour and a few more things... hehehe This time the sims clothing and make up etc doesn't just have one map its uses a texture, and alpha map (trans), and a bump map. Also remember that this time around the Sims have a life cycle, so you have toodlers, kids, teens, adults & elderly... So you can make multiple skin & texture sets for each life cycle... Although you don't have to.. Basically once you give your adult Sim the 'Genetics' and face you like, you can cycle through the ages in bodyshop and see what your sim will look like, and alter if if you like. Its a very versitile peice of kit. At the moment i am finding it a little limited.. But its great practise for when the game comes out on September 17th!!! When included in the game will be a brand new much improved version of BodyShop and the in game CAS, which will have many many many more options. This program is really only any good for you if you intend to play or make things for The Sims 2... Its not for any oher program or game. I have been involved in the sims community for about 4 years, i make skins and meshes ;) (hence my name) I am very excited about the Sims 2, its going to be awesome... Although i will still continue to support the Sims 1.. Hope that has helped... If you have any more questions feel free to ask. -SimderZ- xXx

Thanks, I'll consider grabbing the game when it comes out. If its as much fun as SimCity, then it will be worthwhile. What is the format for Maya ? ... can you get the mesh back into Poser ? regards, Andrew

heres another, showing the Creating screen.... you'll notice all the seperate icons along the top.. I dunno about using these sims in Poser, it might not be a good idea, i doubt Maxis would like that much.. although it might be fun.. ;) And we don't know anything about the file format of the meshes as yet... and you cannot extract them from body shop at the moment as they are altogether and intergrated into the Bodyshop file system. She's cute ... although I noticed that she has the same rag-doll arms that you see in the DAZ characters.

Simderella ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2004 at 6:05 AM

thanks.. you have to remember that these sims meshes are not high res like daz figures, because they are for a game. They look awesome in the actual game. Obviously if they were high res, the game wouldn't run.. The Sims 2 already requires you to have a pretty high powered pc. Also if you have Sim City 4 you will be able to import your created terrains into the Sims 2!! kewl eh.. You might want to know if you are interested in getting the game when it comes out, if your PC can't run BodyShop, you won't be able to run TS2 either.. -SimderZ- xXx

I know of at least one site that has got some "custom" content up right now for Body Shop. I suspect we'll get quite a bit more to play with before S2 comes out. I had a go at it over the weekend but haven't tried any recoluring or custom textures yet. If you're interested...pop and have a look at what she's got.

The sims resource also has stuff... I'm afraid that at the moment its just a seemingly endless stream of Bodyshop recolours... Hopefully when we have more content, people will get a tad more original.

I have just brought Unreal Tournament 2004 and that comes with a copy of 'UPaint' which seems to be Deep Paint but only for Unreal characters, and Maya PLE and plug in to create your own meshes - I guess this is similar?

I also have Upaint for UT 2004, and nope its not the same kind of thing.

I've been around the Sims Community since it started and I know that once there's more to play around with, we're going to see some fantastic work from Sims creators! Altho I've never gotten beyond making my own walls/floors/paintings and some object recolours myself, (darn T-Mog! Never could learn that program!), I can't decide if I'm more excited about the game or seeing what people create! **Now if someone could just figure out how to make long, curly hair for my S2 character I'd be set!!!! :)

Totoro3D ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2004 at 5:19 PM

Will the new Body Shop be free too or only available when buying Sim2 ?

Simderella ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2004 at 7:02 PM

it will be included with The Sims 2 As for creating your own skins, take a look at the manuals that come with BodyShop they tell you how to do it. You will need something like Photoshop.

There's a user manual that you d/l separatley from the program that explains how to export items from Body Shop to you paint program and so forth...Here's the direct link. And the S2 Body Shop is free you can get it now...but be aware that the program is 105 mb d/l and the content pack is 110 mb d/l. In addition File Planet and Game Spot have created 2 "gamer" packs to go with it as well. Have fun! :)

Oh and btw...Be sure you don't click the link to d/l the file for "Asia" (Unless you live there of course lol!) I wasn't paying any attention...and yup! I downloaded the wrong one!
