Subject: Parenting a camera

Is there a way to parent a camera to a charaters head so that we see what she sees, yet still be able to show her in the scene with other cameras. Say she is walking down a hall, stops and looks at something and then we break away to see her reaction? Thanks, Marque

Yes, you can parent any camera to a figure. Position the Dolly to your figures view and set the figure as parent. In your animation you should see what your character sees. Then during the animation, set a key frame and switch camera to "Main" and view your charater's reaction. I am currently working on a "Poser Animation" tutorial which will explain all these techniques. Watch this space for that one. Have Fun NeilP

Well just got my answer from the manual...you can't switch cameras during an animation. So, I guess I will just splice the animations together. Was hoping to save time. Marque

Ack, printing out your answer and sticking it in my manual...going to try it, thanks! Marque

Having a problem positioning it to my character's view, maybe I need to wait for the tutorial. Thanks though, Marque

marque, I spent some time messing with the dolly cam on my own products. I wanted a cam that would sit in the middle of a room and pan around it. Well, the trick is to use the DollyZ parameter to position the camera first, then use Yaw to rotate it till it points in the correct direction. Say your figure is in the middle of the poser space at 0 0 0. Set DollyZ to 0.000, Yaw to 180 and DollyY to about 0.680. That should be more or less eye height. You'll probably have to change the focal length down to 200mm or less. At that point, you should be able to see the eyes, teeth, and inside of the head. If you set DollyZ to negative values, you'll be going backwards with the cam and should see the back of the head. Once you have it set, parent it. mac

PS I tried this as I was typing it and it worked perfectly. mac

'You'll probably have to change the focal length down to 200mm or less' Sorry. That should read 20mm or less. And make sure all the camera scale dials are at 100% mac

Thanks! Going to give that a shot. Marque

Marque, I have created a pz2 (pose) file to parent the DollyCameraSTD to the left eye of the selected figure, the pz2 was made for Victoria 2, but it will probably work with most figures. I have forced the limits for the scale and rotation channels, but not for any others.

Copy the contents of the file attached above to a text editor and resave it to a Pose sub-folder as "LeftEyeCam.pz2".

Some feedback on wether this works for you or not would be much apreciated.
