Subject: More about Daniel the Aeon Hero

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity

This is in response to some questions asked publicly and privately.

Here are side-by-side renders of the unmorphed untextured meshes of Michael 3 (left) and Daniel (right.) As a quick reminder, Daniel takes on M3 textures and M3/Freak/Puck morphs, but can wear M2 clothing. Previously I said that I thought Daniel also worked with some Victoria 3 morphs, but I've since been corrected...that was wrong. I don't know why you'd want to do that to the poor guy, anyway. :-) ...oops...editing to include nudity tag...

I was asked for the M3 face morph recipie of the figure I used in the prior thread. The person who asked wanted to see how it would work on M3 as opposed to Daniel. On the left, Daniel. On the right, the exact same morph combo applied to M3. Texture is "Janne M3" by Mint. Hair on the left is "Greg Hair" by Neftis. As you can see, the effect is very different, because the base mesh shape is different. At least it didn't create some monstrosity. The only real flaw I can see is that the ears are too high on M3, which would take about two seconds to fix in Poser. I made INJ and REM files of this face for M3 head morphs, if anyone would like them just click the link. I haven't tried them on Daniel yet, but the INJ pose works as illustrated on M3. hauksdottir, I didn't have time to do the clothing test you requested, I'll try to get to that soon if there's still interest.

Grrrr...when you edit a post, you lose the pictures as well as the "attach file" option. Let's try again. Here's the M3/Danil figure side-by-side.

"Daniel," not "Danil," LOL. I am NOT editing that post again! :-)

And a correction that you probabaly already know: post #3 should read "right to left Michael 3, Daniel, Michael 2."

You're right MARK. I was in a rush and posted all this stuff too quickly. Correction appreciated.

I rarely come into any forum and enthuse about products, but I really, really like this guy. He poses much more nicely than M2 (I have no idea what Dodger did to the joints, but the arms and chest move beautifully, better than M2, I think). I like that his face isn't a bad characture of Dann Farr (no offence to Dan, but I get tired of seeing his face on every single render of a male figure ;-), and that when you use M3 facial morphs on him, you can get something quite different. His body has the stockier build of M2, but I think it's more natural looking than M2, but that could just be my personal perception. Basically, I really, really like this figure. He's going to be in a LOT of my future renders, and he won't look exactly-the-same-as-every-other-mike in any of them. ;-) bonni

So.. To make sure I've got it right: This is a character that uses M3's textures and morphs - and M2's clothes? G R E A T !

As for the ear being too high on the morphed version you showed in post # 4, M3's ears ARE set higher than "usual" which may be the reason :o) The top of my own ears follow my eyebrow, much like M3's :o)

Ears are usually pretty even with the nose, but they can vary. Xoconostle, The clothing test isn't for my benefit, since I have no intention of buying any generation 3 figure. However, a lot of the people here already have wardrobes which they'd like to carry over from figure to figure. If this guy can readily wear M2's clothes, that gives a new male look. Carolly

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2004 at 9:13 AM

"This is a character that uses M3's textures and morphs - and M2's clothes?" Yes, that's right. :-) Thanks for the cool info on the ears. Carolly, thanks for letting me know. People can trust that M2 clothing works just fine as long as the character isn't too bulked up with the M3 morphs, but as I showed in the previous thread, even if it is, you can still get M2 clothes to fit with a little tweaking. Dean

Jackson ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2004 at 10:29 AM

Does he take M3 clothing?

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2004 at 11:15 AM

Actually that's a good question. The only M3 clothing I've tried so far is the Warlords Barbarian outfit, which failed miserably. However, that outfit relies on the body being morphed a certain way. The body morphs worked, but the shape they created wasn't the one the clothing items wanted. :-) I'll give it a shot with more "normal" clothing, but I suspect that the basic answer is "no."

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2004 at 8:05 PM

Have I been asleep? Who is this Daniel character and is he available somewhere? Marketplace? I need to keep up with these things. Melanie

elizabyte ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2004 at 8:13 PM

Daniel is at Poser Pros. He's by Dodger. He's a unimesh figure, he wears M2 clothes and takes M3 morphs and M3 textures. He also poses beautifully, much improved in the shoulders and chest area when compared to M2. And, unlike M2, he doesn't have Dan Farr's face. ;-) (Again, that's not intended as an insult to Dan, just a comment on how difficult it is to get a "different" look out of M2 or worse, M1). bonni

Who is Dan Farr ? ..... (I've always thought that M2 looks like the guy in The Pretender TV Series)

Dan Farr is the president of DAZ. Michael 1's face was modelled on Dan. M2 is slightly less "Dannish" but still looks very like him.

There's nothing wrong with is face or anything, it's just hard to make it look like anything other than Dan Farr. :-)

First time I saw a picture of Dan Farr, I just laughed and laughed. I didn't know prior to that about Michael being modelled on Dan, and I saw the resemblence IMMEDIATELY! ;-)

Follow the attached link. The resemblence isn't as blatant in that photo as it was in the first one I saw of Dan a few years ago, but it's still pretty clear.

Hmm I think Mike3 looks a bit like Mr Weiss. But Mike 1 definately looks like Dan Farr.

If you get tired of seeing Mr. Farr's face in thousands of renders, just imagine how he must feel about some of them! :-)

Hmm Anyone but me getting this result when loading Daniel? If I try to use the RTE it tells me that the CRC does not match the file used for encoding. I've tried it with but the original M3 obj and (if there's any change) with one after the SR1, so I went with the Mac solution, but that broe his wrist and ankle, and doesn't his left lef look thinner than the right? I really WANT to play with Daniel :o(

I've been praised for my ability to get rid of Mike's "Mikeness" when making custom faces for Mike 2, so I'm going to loose my trade secret. Set the "HdMichael2" dial at the top of the list to zero.

Here's a side by side. Different chin, different nose, different lips, somewhat different cheeks. It goes a long way toward not looking like Dan Far.

I just wanted to say that I got the problem solved. Thanks Dodger (whether you see this or not *G*) It turned out that M3 has been updated TWICE, and I didn't know of the SR1.01. I remember getting an e-mail when SR1 came out but 1.01 was a new one to me. Oh well it solved my problem :o) This new guy is GRREAT! Takes all of M3's morphs and allthough they look different, it only adds to the versatility :o)

melanie ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2004 at 7:53 PM

There used to be a page at DAZ that showed how they created Mike 1, with a shot of Dan holding up the cast of his face. They must have removed it because I can't find it anymore. A few years ago, just before the first Mike made his dabut, I had spoken to Dan on the phone and I had no idea at that time that I would own a "clone" of him only a few months later. In fact, at that time, I didn't even know he was the president of the company. I thought he was someone in their marketing department or something. LOL Melanie

It turned out that M3 has been updated TWICE, and I didn't know of the SR1.01. I remember getting an e-mail when SR1 came out but 1.01 was a new one to me. I had problems, too. I eventually did, in desperation, download the update and reinstall it (actually, I reinstalled M1 and then M3 since it's an upgrade version, and then the patch, because I didn't know what was wrong). I didn't know there was ANOTHER update, either. I just stumbled upon it when I was troubleshooting and reinstalling stuff (that was with Puck; by the time I got to Daniel it was okay). No, I didn't get a notification of a second update, either. bonni
