when opening Poser 5, I get this error message, and then Crash to Desktop. XML Error Parse Error: not well-formed at line 8. I just installed 30 new items, even rendered an image (it slurped as always, sol I dare not post them unless they are worthy... but ... any idea what file this might be referring to? so that I might be able to see if I can fix it? I tried doing a reinstall of poser, and that didn't fix the error message. If I uninstall Poser5, will all of the installed mods/items be retained? or will they be removed by the uninstall? I just DREAD having to reinstall everything i got in there, it's like a zoo, and half of them cause a crash when I use them, so it's a game of russian roulette when I select an object. The other problem I have, is I'm not fully versed in what you can and can't do as far as sorting the items. I follow the readme instructions to the letter, and I STILL get: Hairs in my expressions, expressions in my hairs, poses in my clothing, etc... Is there any way to sort these things and still be able to use them? and YES, I'm still learning to use poser, I'll probably NEVER figure out how you guys get the legs to bend decently... it seems the feet are always "rooted" to the "ground" if you could call it that, so posing them is darn awfully hard for me. As always, the Renderosity Community is more often than not, much more helpfull than going to Curious Labs for help. So I thank you ALL for all the help you have given me as I try to fiddle with new programs and learn.

This is a known error in earlier builds of Poser 5. It has since been patched. Do you have the latest service release installed? If not, you can download the application and figure updates at Curious Labs.

it seems the feet are always "rooted" to the "ground" if you could call it that ....

You probably have IK (Inverse Kinematics) enabled for the legs. You can disable IK from the Figure menu.

What version number is your copy of P5 ? This problem was was fixed in SR2.1 according to the CuriousLabs FAQ (see attached link), so you should get the latest service release.

If you are not using multiple runtimes, then the fix is simple, just delete RuntimeprefsLibraryPrefs.xml (make a copy first just in case), P5 will create a default file on next startup.

If you do have multiple runtimes, you may want to edit the copy created by Poser (look for a file with XMLError in it's name in the above directory), to avoid having to reconnect your other runtimes.
Proceed as follows, open file in text editor remove all lines that look like
Save a copy, then save as LibraryPrefs.xml

Until you update to a service release that fixes this problem you will get this error again if you exit poser with a library directory selected that contains an unescaped XML character.
