Subject: Coincidence, obsolescence, or conspiracy?..Mike 1

pakled ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2004 at 11:30 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 5:54 PM

I'm probably going to sound like a whiner, but I'm trying to get clothes on Mike Lo-res (aside from the boxers..it's still illegal to parade around in your underwear in 34 states..;)
Here's the deal; I am unable for various reasons to purchase anything by credit card. I've been looking for something simple..pants, shirt, and shoes for Mike. Found 1 sneaker (?), a robe (helpful, if I can get it closed..;), a coif, and a cloak..so far. Everything else 'requires x, a's, texture, b's prop, c's permission..etc..'.
Considering all the free stuff for other characters..I've noticed a deficit of basic meshes for Mike clothing..almost everything seems to be based on something that's sold. Perused through Freestuff..which was helpful..all I'm looking for is a shirt, some pants, and some shoes..any shoes..that will conform to Mike 1.
Now's your chance to shine..anyone have anything like that?..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

CoreArts has a SciFi jacket for Mike 1 and 2 here http://www.corearts.com/Main.htm At CoreArts site there is a few other standalone mike outfits. mwa has a tanktop, jeans, sweater, and shorts here Poserworld has a lot of stuff for Mike1. Pay site. check all the poser sites free sections, there is a lot but sometimes ya have to hunt for stuff, Mike1 is old. I think Mike2 will wear Mike2 stuff with some tweaking, dunno, I only have Mike 2, and Mike 3.

Forgive me,cause I really don't know, but doesn't Mike1 use the same clothing as Mike2 (that's true with Vic1 and 2)? If that is the case,I saw alot of things in freestuff for him. Second or third page had sneakers, and I found this link for jeans, sweatshirt, and vest. At least DL them and see if they work. SWAMP

Mike 2 is Mike 1 with lots of additional morphs. The M2 clothing should fit M1 without any problems. I pretty sure that's also true with the Lo-Res versions. Cheers!

There's a western shirt and pants out there but I can't find the link, and the MWA stuff is great (I found then at 3DCommune's forum long ago)and I think PoserWorld had a pair of tennis shoes for all the MilPeople, you might check their freestuff archives.

Don't forget to check MalePoser. It's THE definitive site for Michael and besides their free downloads you'll be sure to find links to more. Also check [RuntimeDNA's](http://www.runtimedna.com/) Free stuff, there's a great sweater for Mike and other items as well. Oh, and igohigh is right, that's one great suit for Mike!

PhilC also has some free stuff for Mike and PlanIt3d has a Japanese outfit for him. I never buy the basic DAZ pack of clothing for a character. I've got PhilC's basic Mike 2 clothing pack, though, and it has plenty of useful items to cover the poor fellow from top to toe.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 6:51 AM

pdxjim has a slew of free items for Mike. They had been in freestuff here, have't checked recently. Yes mike 1/2 take the same clothes.

Thanks, I hadn't realised Mike 1 and Mike 2 were compatible. Is there any listing anywhere of these compatibilities; Mike, Vicky, and all the others? I know Posette head morphs work with the Poser 3 female...

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 11:18 AM

hmmm..maybe I've been a victim of my own ignorance..I wasn't going to point any fingers..;) but here's what I've tried so far..and the results..
sneakers from Freestuff- got a left..no right..(?)
Corearts jacket..never seemed to show up..I'm wondering if the prescence of a .png and no .rsr indicates it's for Poser 5?
MWA..uh..the shirt and pants turn parts of him different colors (it's why the bartender is light blue in one of my pics..;)
I knew Mike 1 and 2 were compatible..unfortunately I'm using lo-res Mike..I wouldn't think that's a real problem..as long as the proportions are close..that is..;)
Thanks for the links..there's a few I didn't have..I'll cruise on out this evening if given a chance..finally put a robe on Mike, which worked out ok..I put someone in front of him so you couldn't see the lack of clothes..;) thanks again everyone..

When he first came out, there were truly no clothes for him... so somebody did a render with a cowboy hat covering his front. ;)

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 3:20 PM

Poser 5 clothing objects should work in Poser4 if made correctly and if they do NOT include dynamic hair or cloth. If they rely on shaders for colouring weird things happen with going back a version. If a file has a png and no rsr its either PoserProPack or Poser5. Even money on which these days. The lores versions of M&V 1&2 can use the clothing, hair and textures but NOT the morphs of their high res counterparts. If you are a Mac user you should run everything through MacConvertor before using. If an object will not load, or loads weird pastel colored copies of various bodyparts you have a missing or corrupt obj. OR a cr2 that is incompatible with your version of poser. If using p4, make sure you're are patched up to 4.03 Lyrra

"MWA turned parts of Mike different colors"??? Darn that cheap dye!!!! If you wash it in cold water with a about 5 table spoons of salt it should stop the dye from bleeding ;p

I've been trying to use Wyrmaster's new magnet sets on lo-res Mike 1 (who renders nice and fast). What am I doing wrong there?

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2004 at 9:54 PM

oh..ok..musta washed them in hot..;) I think part of the problem is deciding where files go..I have a bit of a handle, but it might be folder names, it might be corrupt downloads..;) I was thinking the MWA stuff might be textures for existing clothes (I have very few)..;) If there's a readme..I'm there..I have about a 50% success rate getting things working, but hopefully the odds will improve..
I actually have a Mac, and LC II in storage, holding up the bass drum, and on top of the Leslie..;) somewhere in that wilderness of junk is my Poser manual..;)

If you are ever able to purchase anything, may I recommend a subscrition to Poserworld - they have loads of stuff for all the characters, excellent value.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 23 May 2004 at 8:00 AM

Magnets made for Mike1 or 2 should work on Lores Mike 1 & 2. However! note that word 'Low resolution' there are less polygons for the magnets to act on so the result may be chunky and look bad. So if the result looks weird, that would probably be why. Lyrra

Ethesis ( ) posted Sun, 23 May 2004 at 11:42 AM

Thanks. In my case they didn't seem to work at all. No changes. I'll have to figure out what happened and try again. I really need a tutorial.

Dr Geep did a couple tutorials on magnets. They are collected at Crescent's site. Hmm... 6 of them, that should help you! Carolly http://fallencity.net/tut-geep/index.php

I don't think the new Wyrmmaster magnet set is going to work on a low res mike 1 - low res (as mentioned before) means there aren't the same number of polys to work with, ie. the geometry is totally different. These magnets were designed to take advantage in a seemingly intricate way of the specific models (and geometries) they address. There isn't a set specifically designed for any of the version 1 models either, so I wouldn't expect them to work real well (if at all) on a version 1.

Here's another important disclaimer from the DAZ site on this set:

IMPORTANT LIMITATION NOTES

  • This Product is NOT compatible with DAZ|Studio
This Product Will NOT work on P4 Human Figures, Animals, or Other Figures that do not have ALL the following body parts. Head, Neck (Upper Neck Optional), Collar, Shoulder, Fore Arm, Hand, Chest, Abdomen, Hip, Buttocks, Thigh, Shin, Foot. While There is NO limitation to the number of figures that can be used in the same scene, many Deformer Tools will only work on the first figure loaded.

Hope this helps,

Unzipped

"Buttocks" means second generation figures, at a minumum.
