Hi, We have just launched the New Marketplace layout, and are still tweaking It. There will still be a "What's New" section. Please use the link below until we have the link showing on the main Marketplace pages. http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?WhatsNew=Yes Please bear with us while we work through some of the issues. Thank you, Stacey Renderosity Admin
Hang tight. We are still working on the migration. Once that is complete we can address any concerns. There will be a "What's New" for all products. Just hang tight, we're getting there. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions

I'll reserve judgement for a couple of days. Give them a chance to work it out, first -- prior to declaring open season (again).
In any case, it usually takes a while to get used to something new.
"I've gotten really whiney since I hung up my Mod hat here. ;-)" You've got to be kidding, Cres. You're one of the most consistently positive people in all the forums, and it never comes across as being fake. By all means, whine! It's sort of nice in the case of a nice person like yourself. :-) I'm not as nice as Crescent, but I'm trying to be. Unfortunately, I truly believe that this "facelift" will hurt sales. As it currently exists, it's a lot less user-friendly than the previous interface. A preferred improvement would have been a better search function. Many of us have been asking for that for a very long time. Why did you do this strange forced catagorization thing instead?
Hm, now I just noticed ... my entire purchase history has disappeared. I will be patient in hopes that the staff can complete this transition and fix the broken parts, but... You should have given us some advance warning. :-) Perhaps you thought you'd avoid controversy and mindless whining if you just sprang this on us, and perhaps that's true. Unfortunately, the shock of seeing my purchase history (and the ability to re-download purchases) disappear without warning does make one feel like celebrating the GUI change. A little warning would have gone a long way to buffer shock and set expectations. OK, enough complaining from Mr. Xoco for now. Please restore our purchase histories and ability to re-download. I've found that to be a very helpful and much-appreciated feature in the past.
The new MarketPlace interface is up.
We will continue working on the product category optimization and making the final adjustments over the next few days.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we take care of the polishing touches.
Best wishes,
LillianH

How do I change the color of the download buttons so I can READ them, are you forcing the light background on us?, I have my color scheme set to MV original background and now everything 'looks' blank on the purchase history page, except the mouseover is now RED, the text link doesn't show at all. The smaller thumbs suck too, some merchants can't get a 200x200 thumb to look good, how do you think they're 100x100 are going to look? As a Merchant I didn't design my thumbs to be shrunken to 100x100, as a customer it's just one more thing to get me to shop elsewhere, what can you possibly fit into such a small space to show a product? A little advance warning would have been nice, at least courteous, but like everything here lately, you just go and do it without forethought......;(

dlk, you got lucky. :-) In all fairness, my purchase history seems to be back now, but I can't read any of it without highlighting the frames. I figure this will be fixed soon. I just hope we will be able to browse again. After all, impulse buying is probably as lucrative as targeted buying. Having both choices would be the best option.

Not only can you not see the purchase history, you can't see what you are buying unless you have the white background...The shopping cart and public wishlists are also out of it. I'm not a merchant, but as a customer, I would have rather seen it left the way it was with some additional search criteria. This way is just chaos. ShadowWind
It would be really handy if our color preferences for text etc. actually worked across the whole site.

A couple things...
Why are the icons only 100x100? The gallery is 200x200 and I would think you'd want customers to be able to see the tease graphic to get people in.
Secondly, there is no way to get to your shopping cart and/or wishlist to look at what you have without checking out? What happened to the sidebar?
Of all of Rosity's flubs, this has got to be one of the biggest ones. Why take a store that is doing okay and twist it up, so it doesn't? makes no sense to me. And once again, you didn't beta test it at all before throwing it up there like normal sites do. I like Rosity, but even got to say badform on this one.
One more thing. How come What's New only has 75 items in it. Is it what's new within a certain time period rather than being What's new as far as you want go back? If it's the former, that really sucks and I think merchants will lose out, because frankly I often go through lots of pages if I'm looking to find something new to play with, even if I've seen them before, but didn't need them. ShadowWind
Hi Shadowwind, I have a request intot he programmers to add a My Shopping Cart link to help with this problem. The Whats New section displays products released within the last 7 days only. After that its not really "New" anymore. Clint

Is there any way we can get it on the New Products screen? I have never clicked on the marketplace button thing until yesterday (out of frustration)and don't really want to have to start. New Products is how I have shopped for many years here and I know that is how a lot of people do it. Even the simple link set up would be good but right now there is no way to do anything.
ClintH, I don't understand why Rosity would want to put restrictions on what is considered new or make it harder to just navigate the entire spectrum of products? Is it not the goal to give as much exposure as possible? When I shop for products, I will go far beyond 75 items to see if there is something I like. Heck, I even have gone through all the products at one point fishing around. 7 days is way too short for that. I was just gone for 8-9 days last week and would have (and maybe did) miss products that were available. At least make it 15 at the least and then include some "see all products" archives or something like that please. ShadowWind
Hi Ghost, I am looking into making this easier to navigate. Thanks for brining it to my attention. Hi ShadowWind, At this time we are staying with 7 days. As time goes by we may have to reevaluate some areas and fine tune them as needed. Clint

A few?! I really need that ROFL smiley, sigh. As for the "What's New" being just 7 days, well that sux. I used to miss a few weeks and just click through it seeing what came out. It was a useful tool.
Calypso Dreams... My Art- http://www.calypso-dreams.com
I always used the "Digital Products" link on the sidebar to access the marketplace. I dislike not having some sort of "browse entire catalog" option. Particularly since I sometimes go entire weeks without looking at what's in there. I never used the "What's New" function and only used the categories when I was looking for something specific like hair models and such. As it is, the marketplace is now a useless waste of time and not at all convenient. Kate
You know Clint, if I didn't know better, I'd think you are purposely trying to chase customers away from the marketplace. I still don't understand the idea of crippling it as you have. For the sake of a new look? For less bandwidth? What? I have been a long time buyer from the store, purchasing over $3000 over the years. Except in rare cases (and Daz), I buy here almost exclusively, but that will probably change in this new setup.
100x100 thumbnails are ridiculoously small. Not only do they leave tons of white space that don't describe the products, they are hard to see what the item is. This gives less incentive to click on it. One great thing about Rosity's store over the competition was the fact that it had bigger thumbnails to see the products better.
I guess OnSale is also only 7 days, so when people put their entire stores on sale, one only sees the last few items that were there. If your sale is running for a month, I guess it never gets seen after 7 days, unless someone just happens to stumble across it. What is the sense in this? The point of something being on sale is that it's shown to be on sale. Stores in the real world don't hide items on sale, they promote them to death. Why should an online site be any different?
What happened to the warehouse or are we supposed to track down category by category what might be in there? They are having trouble selling now. Under this method, you've signed their death warrant. Which is a shame, because there is a lot of good products in there. Of course, we'll never know now because it's a waste to find them.
The ability as Kate said to browse the entire catalog is something that is very, very helpful to someone like me who uses many different programs and therefore can use many different formats of files (poser, vue, obj, 3ds, 2D, etc). I don't want to have to browse 50 different subcategories to see what might be cool to buy.
I'm sorry, I just don't understand what would possess you all to do this...
Just to keep us all on the same page: - The thumbnail size has been changed from 100x100 to 200x200. - "What's New" link added to main MarketPlace page. The background color is being reviewed. But, will probably not be changed. There has been a lot of research done regarding background colors on e-commerce sites and our choice was not made arbitrarily. Here is a good reference that gives some insight into this decision: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/colour-checklists-web-design/2 Also, it may be helpful to know that more than 94% of our active members use the default off-white background. However, we do understand that, unfortunately, this particular color may not be desirable to all of our members. As for why we did this, there were several reasons. First, the buyers, merchants, and community expressed many requests for the MarketPlace that we wanted to impliment. Secondly, we wanted to reduce the server load that naturally comes when you have a single page query that pulls around 7,000 items at one time. At finally, businesses that don't keep things fresh and provide their buyers with what they want, generally fail. Numbers speak for themselves, and the numbers so far indicate that this change is having an overall positive effect. I hope this helps a bit with the understanding. There really is a meathod behind the madness. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions

Well thanks for making the icons back to 200x200 and adding the What's New.
Well it will certainly save me money in the long run, because I don't have time to sift through every single category to find out what might be older or had been on sale for more than 7 days. What I can't see, I can't buy. Every other site in your market has this feature and I guess will spend more time shopping there.
Lillian, 7000 records should not be enough to limit your customer's choices. I know it sounds like a lot of records to a layman, but as a programmer that uses mySQL on a daily basis with 100's of thousands of records, it's not. However, if given the traffic, you are having server problems at even this low amount, then there are solutions.
One thing our staff came up with to lighten the load, is to derive a flat fixed length text file from the database with only the pertinant information it needs to display. Text files do not have the overhead of an mySQL request and can reduce server load considerably from the display engine. Since you seem to only update the store once a day or so, you could have the database query once and create this file by cron or have a manual creator after you do the update (which I would recommend in case the text file gets out of sync). The part I don't understand is why Rosity would rather limit their customers and lose revenue rather than have programming deal with the issues. We would certainly be in big trouble at work if we were to suggest such a thing.
ShadowWind
My thoughts exactly...my team runs 2 online stores ..one with close to 50,000 products and one with 32,000 products, both of which update nightly and include on the fly php delivery as well as static pages for the search engines. And one of them actually downloads data from somewhere ELSE, then compiles it and updates OUR server. If yours can't handle it it seems time for a server upgarde pronto..they don't cost THAT much to upgrade. Weren't we told some months back that bandwidth and server capability was "no problem"...ad nauseum? I HAVE noticed a speed increase, but might want to look at the trade off of alienating shoppers...

I can't figure out how to view all the newest products. I used to be able to click on a button and see what has come out from the most recent on down. I don't want to look only at new Poser stuff, or new Rhino stuff, or whatever. I want to see everything so I can decide if I want it or now. I have to selected at least one category to get a "What's New" link, but that only shows what's new for that category. I have to drill at least 2 levels deep with some categories to find anything. If I'm missing something, please feel free to hand me the dunce cap while pointing it out. Thanks! Cres
