Carol! You moved the Poser folder to an external HD and it works fine? You mean the program runs off the external drive even though it wasn't installed there? I'm asking because I have an external HD -120Gigs and would love to have it there for space reasons too. "I moved it by dragging and dropping the entire Poser folder without any problems at all."

Butch ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 6:59 AM

There's a Poser 4 and Poser 5??? I'm still using Poser! Just kidding I use 4 with the updates. Been tempted to buy 5 a couple of time, but all the issues with it make me leary of it. People seem to either curse it or swear by it. Looking forward to Daz studio and hope that they can improve the render times.

Poser4 & ProPack here too

Using PPP here...I have Poser5 but I haven't even taken it out of the box yet LOL

who3d ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 8:53 AM

Poser 5....Poser 4 locks up too much - wheras P5 SR4.1 has the memory leak that caused so many P4 and Pre-SR4 P5 problems. Truth be told THIS is the fix which makes Poser really WORK for me - I might be tempted to use Poser 4 more if it had this memory leak fixed (assuming that was enough to make it as stable as Poser 5). As is, Poser 4 is crippled both by lack of functionality (textures! No Materials Room!) and by comparative instability. Cheers, Cliff

Poser 4 with Vue & Photoshop support. Been tempted by ProPack. Will see what Daz|Studio ends up being. May look at Poser 6.

Pro pack and poser 5 win98 I use pro pack a lot more than poser 5 because I prefer the screen to be 800x600.

galactron22 ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 10:04 AM

Well I found Poser5 to be too complicated, the fact that you have to go to different rooms to pose, add clothing, texture, and add hair, turns out to be too much, so Ive stuck with Poser4 Propack.

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 10:49 AM

Dizzie that's what I've done a few times too :o) Moving the lot. I have Poser on it's own 40Gb harddisk and every time I get a new computer, I just put that disk in and make a new shortcut to Poser.exe on my desktop. works just fine :o) This is Poser 4 Pro Pack, My Poser 5 is installed and I'm just linking to that old runtime because I don't want to reinstall some odd 25Gb of stuff. But it works fine anyway :o)

Oh and Xantor.. Why can't you have a 800x600 workspace in Poser 5? I do. And actually it's easier to have a bigger workspace with the floating parameter palette...

Propack. I have P5 but even with SR4 and a brand new system it won't work right.

Pro Pack here. Haven't gotten P5 yet but i am considering it.

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 1:25 PM

I use P5. Would never consider going back to 4 now. Dynamic clothes make it all worth while for me, and the power of the material room never ceases to amaze.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

100% PPP. Have been looking at P5 (seems to unstable)and DAZ Studio. I would really like a mix of PPP with DAZ Studio. I think D/S definately has promise. Having said that,if DAZ or someone else dosen't make a plug-in of some sort so magnets can be used D/S will not be used to anymore than about 5% by me. :-)

I'm using Poser 4.0.3. It rules! My friend has Poser 5, which looks pretty good, but I'm used to using Poser 4.

Dizzie ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 1:57 PM

Oh wow Trekkie, that's fab news!! I'll be moving asap and I think I'll leave the some empty Poser folders on C drive so I can install to there and copy to the other drive...yeah, that'll work.....big arse grin Thanks for the Tip!

Poser 5, and I don't plan to go back to P4.

sandoppe ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 5:04 PM

Poser 5. I never had P4 or ProPack. I also use Vue 4+ and can import P5. Use PsP 8 for postwork

SpottedKitty ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 5:49 PM

Poser 4 here, with the 4.0.3 update. I'm fairly sure it's as much as my computer can handle — I don't have a brand new all-singing all-dancing system, remember not everyone can afford to constantly chase the upgrade trail. I get crashes, of course, especially since I still use Win98, but if I remember to save often enough I can work around that. I'm happy enough, and I can do most of what I want with P4.

I use P5 for almost everything. I do use P4 to take advantage of the crosstalk for clothes, then it get put back to P5 again. If it wasn't for the crosstalk in P4, I wouldn't use it at all. Can't go back once I used and started to understand P5.

JenniSjoberg ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 1:34 AM

Poser 4 here. And I won't be changing to anything (P5 (or 6) or Daz studio) any time soon.. P4 does all that I need it to do.

Yes the crosstakl is one of those things you almost wish they DIDN'T fix LOL I miss it in the morphing clothes. Never thought about using PPP for that though. Good idea :o)

Hmmm many, many more people using P5 now then everyone always says there are. Good news!

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Chas ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 8:12 AM

Just poor-man's software, here: P4 (no ProPack) and PS6. I'm looking at biting the bullet and trying Vue or P5; DAZ|Studio is so memory-hungry that it's practically useless to me.

wolf359 ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 8:16 AM

I got poser5 because of the low $99 dollar upgrade for mac OSX but I do all of my character animation in the good old poser propack4 and render in my older seat of Cinemad4XL7.3.3. Its still the best solution for external rendering for me.

i saved up for p5, and then never got it because of the reviews it was getting in the forums. so, i continued to save and finally got lightwave. so, p4, here, when i use poser at all. i've become addicted with making critters and stuff and have a hd full of half completed lil guys.

ming ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 5:42 PM

P4, and I see nothing better coming out in the near future.

nakamuram ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 6:40 PM

I have P5, but I still use P4. Maybe now that DAZ Studio does not support some of the features I use, I may switch to P5.

mondoxjake ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2004 at 8:42 PM

Poser 4 only here...thumbs down on P5 and not crazy about Daz Studio at this point.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 30 May 2004 at 1:36 AM

Hasn't P4 been relaunched as "Poser Artist"? I use P5 partly because I seem to have just missed the tail-end of availability in the UK, but P4 would probably do everything I want.

My P4 and Win98 very rarely ever lock up or crash on me. Only if I've been working back and forth between two heavy duty programs, but just P4 alone, it never locks up, even on Win98. I must be doing something right. Melanie

cyberscape ( ) posted Sun, 30 May 2004 at 11:57 AM

Poser 4, sometimes ProPack. I have two installs on separate HDs - one called "Poser V3", the other "Poser Victoria". This helps me keep track of all the stuff I have since I rarely mix V1 and V3 in the same render. Also use Photoshop 7, Mimic, Premiere 6 and Fruity Loops 3. Need a better computer before trying P5. All of the above works great on WinXP with 350mhz (512mb RAM).

I couldn`t use a pc that is 350mhz mine is 1.1 gigaherz and is too slow for me but I only have 128 megabytes of ram, which is about 900 megabytes less than I need.
