This was my experiment to see if I could come up with a good looking mix of ice, snow, dirt, and a boot print.

This is a combo of 3 terrains, one booleaned negative to make the boot print, and one was subcontoured to produce the dirt poking through.

Snow and ice are picture textures, dirt is prcedural.

This experiment led to my picture I (finally) uploaded recently, "Falling Away".Feel free to download this scene file, and tear it apart. ;o)

6.4Mb download, .br5 scene file.

Awesome work... The next is just a little OT,but your experiment brought it all back to me... We need to come out with a Book called..."Brycers" and we can have a contest and the top 100 pictures that get picked would have to have an accompaning Tutorial on how they did the Pic...I am all for it how about you AS...? We all could see how much it would cost to print out and mark the price accordingly...? I think it has been an awesome I dea of mine for the last two years...How about you guys?

I remember you stating this before Foleypro.... I agreed with you then and I still think it is a cool idea. 8)

I was wondering about how you did the footprint AS... thanks for sharing.8)

Where are the thousands of dollars it would take to have a book printed come from? AS

That is neat! Thank you Agent!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 9:30 PM

You're welcome. :o) Yeah, a more immediate possibility is to take the 100 tutorials, put it on disk and sell the disk. Low overhead. AS

If you guys want a book printed, www.cafepress.com has a book printing deal. I havent tried it, but all you do is create a PDF file and submit it to them, and they will print the book whenever someone buys one (i think). I have made/ordered products from them and they are very nice so I wouldnt expect less on a book.

For book publishing with cafe press. it will cost $0.03 per page and there is a $7 binding fee.
The link has all the info you need on this

I thought I had seen a commercial talking about services like this... Even at an average of 3 pages per astist, 100 artists, that's just $16 per book. Sell it for $25....

Sounds cool, but what about editing.I've made some turorials, but heck if I know if my sentences make sense.I'd but a book even if it had less artists.

Yeah, even if it had only 25 people doing it with nicely detailed tutorials on their scenes, you could still have a 125 page book. AS

Either a CD or a downloadable PDF is probably going to be the best alternative. Cafepress (and all like print-on-demand printer's I know of) states, "Book contents are printed in black and white". There is one (whose name escapes me) which will do color pages but the price is alot higher and generally cost prohibitive.

troy_schopp ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 11:04 AM

Just a thought from a quiet Brycer. Doing the "book" on Cd would also allow the tutorial writer to include simple free objects/textures to use step by step with the tutorial.
